NEW TO CAN AM NEED HELP DECIDING ON A NEW SxS

hey all, my first post here. so i am in the market for a side by side. this will be my first coming from quads since i was 14 im 39 now. ive never been brand loyal so to speak ive had honda, kawasaki and suzuki's and the 1 polarisnever owned a can-am.

i have narrowed it dow to 2 machines i think. a rzr S 1000 or canam maverick X xc. im very torn i like things about both machines and then there are things i hear i dont like about each reliability wise. i realize this is an maverick forum but be as honest as you can i appreciate it.

can am negatives i read seems like people go through belts and there hard to change when u do, also cabin heat.

on the rzr i read wheel bearings go bad frequently, dirt build up in clutch, bad bushings... ect.

i like the rzr seems like it crawls rocks and rutted trails better then the mav but the mav interior is so damn nice and gauges in front of you as opposed to centered on dash is a nice touch and the deals the stealership gives on the mavs are better so cost savings on the mav side.

i live in Sahuarita in southern az so mostly mountain trail riding here. i have no interest in dunes and minimal if any mud. please help a guy out with some advise last thing i want to do is regret not buying the other 18k is a big purchase to make a mistake.

interesting... ok when u say better clutches that leads me to the question of mavericks blowing belts. is xds more durable because of the better clutches then the x xc? is it true they are prone to premature best wear? was that an issue only in 2014 models that has been addressed in 2016s?

I have to be real here. If you have your heart set on a 60 inch machine the S 1000 is by far a better handling machine than the xxc. There isn't cab heat.... well as much, your still going to get some.

Regarding the XDS non turbo it has the same clutch as the XXC, which nothing is wrong with the clutch as long as you know how to drive without abusing your machine. If I had $18k to spend I would buy a 2016 Rzr turbo. I know all the problems and recalls but those are being addressed. That is one heck of machine for $18k. If I'm stuck to using 60" machine it would have to be the Rzr S 1000.

Canam has better Quality control then Polaris has . I was a die hard Polaris guy but way too many failures to stay loyal . Anything man-made will break but Polaris just does it more often . If money didn't matter it would be a X3 but when 20 is the top a old style maverick will work fine . The mid engine does make noise and heat . But all sxs seem to have some faults .
I have a 14 Mav XRS and I run heavy mud tires and after 4500 miles I broke one cv-joint and did A-arm bushings once .
Look at the pro's and cons of both units and go for it and have fun . Good luck

I checked my valves at 1500 miles. Didn't need any adjustment at all. I don't think that's an issue. The belt can be out in about 15 minutes. It's not terrible, but you need to take out the seat and left side panels inside. Then the 3 bolts along the bottom are kinda a pain but with a gear wrench it's not too bad.

You'll never adjust the valves on a maverick at 12hrs that's a sales pitch change the fluids yourself..as far as blowing belts that's the desert guys if you go out and hold it wide open for miles on end you blow belts on any machine...I run a maverick with ca can am belt and change it every 1000 miles just because and that's 30" tires on the rutted rocky trails in low range no problems...I've got a lot of friends with Rzr's and they are constantly working on them ..that's what made me try a maverick and it was a great decision in my opinion.. I did a gusset kit on the front and tie rods . The best thing about Polaris is the easy belt change but I've never had to change one on the trail and if you do it's an extra 15 minutes to get the seat and console out. I'd say go can am non-turbo all you need is power steering .

All sound advise , I have owned them all and now own three canam's .
The one with the highest hours and miles is my outlander and the valves needed to be set once in 8500 miles . Every time I have checked they have been good . They were set at about 4000 miles for the first and only time .

The break-in inspection in the owners manual says at 10 hrs to inspect and adjust the valves, but I'm pretty sure no one on here has had to adjust the valves at 10 hours. At least I haven't read anywhere on here them being out of spec at 10 hrs. I just checked mine at 100 hours over 1000 miles and they were still within spec.

Changing out the belt inst that big of a deal. 30 minutes max. I will take that 30 minutes to change a belt and the quality of the Maverick versus 10 minutes to change a belt and the crap of the RZR.
