The only place I could find to place a whip on mine was on the back half of the rollcage. Each side has a thin metal gusset across the top with a hole drilled in it. Its not ideal but it worked for the weekend. Definitely going to have to find something better down the road. I am also getting ready to install the LSR roof so it will cover the existing hole I am talking about.

 

I talked to guys at the Sand Show and the solution they had was to drill through the Lone Star roof. Look like it is time for some extra tabs.

 

Only place I saw was on the roll cage. The can am guy said you can mount one in the bed area, but I never looked to see where.

Don't bother mounting a flag into the Linq system, it will just break the plastic and make a bigger hole.:furious:

 

Probably best off to weld on tabs just like I did on my 2013. Only way to get them the way I like and that will include an extra tab mount for the car to car radio.

i was looking at the rear upper shock mounts, there is a gusset there on the outboard side with a hole pre-drilled. That may work for the whips..Its thicker than the other spots i found. Where is everyone else mounting them?

 

I just put on my old Tusk mount from my old rzr.

Not sure. Depends how much room is between bar and lip of roof. There are other mounts that prolly work like the axia mounts but they are pricier.

I ended up drilling a hole in the bed area.

 

We are building tabs and bolting them to the two bolts right in front of shock reservoir..... Ran all the wiring through cage and the wires come right out near the two bolts....The cage definitely looks interesting in how it was made and assembled....Kind of different....lol

 

X3 cage is oddball size 1.85". Nobody makes anything in that size yet. I have the 1.875 Axia mount but it won't hold tightly and wants to rotate on the bar I'm going to have to shim something in between.

 

My dealer said they are running into same issue but the next size down works and is what they gave me (1.75 I assume).

 

Just put some skinny pieces of rubber inside the 1.875 axia mount

 

If the 1.875" wont clamp tight enough take an old bicycle tube and cut it into strips to put inside the clamp. it will keep it from scratching the cage and take up enough of the gap that it should give you a tight mount.

 

Put some heat shrink around the 1.875 Axia and it works perfect.

 

The only 1.75" accessory I have been able to mount are the Seizmik side mirrors. Tight fit but works.

Called Axia the other about the 1.875 clamps and was told to use Aluminum heat tape on them. Have Axia fire extinguisher mounts, license plate and mobile antenna mounts on our X3's using the tape on the clamps and it works great.

 

Any pics? I would think the shiny aluminum tape would stick out like a sore thumb compared to something like a black bike tire tube.

 

Is that an antenna cable you have hanging out of the roll cage?

Found a nice spot to put my flag mounts (Whip-it, quick disconnect). The metal plate is plenty thick and the hole was the correct size. All I had to do is carve the inner plastic plate 1/2" and then drill with a hole saw the outer plastic piece. Works awesome.

 

That's a good looking spot. It will also hold them straight up and down. I bought the adjustable axia mounts thinking I would have to go that route and mount on the back bar

I just made a mount that uses the 2 bolts attaching the rear cage, good location and solid.

While I made my own, I have switched to a Axia Alloys clamp on mount. What I found out mounting them on these 2 bolts, the mount continually loosened up over time and if you keep tightening the bolts, you just start collapsing the thin tubing. After running mine at this point, IMO it's not a strong enough mounting point.
