What are you guys using to turn the spring nuts on your rides?

Remember to Jack up the vehicle to take off the tension . Mine are are to move since I’m in mud, water and sand all the time . I have to break mine free with a hammer and fat screwdriver every single time , then I use the spanner wrench that came in the tool kit in the glove box . I also have spring compressors. A small move goes a long way !

By hand, clean shock very good, spray thread with wd40 or whatever you have, jack it up so tires are off the ground, break lock rings loose with screw driver and hammer, grab ring with one hand and spring with the other, turn

Well I set the preload and crossovers to the settings that Shock Therapy suggested on the front and rear. Now the ride height is correct. The person that I purchased this from used it mostly on roads so he had the suspension set up lover by 1.25 inchs in the front and 1 inch in the rear. He also had the crossovers raised 3/4 inch in the rear and 1/2 inch in the front. This is the reason I was bottoming out and tearing up the skid plate here in Havasu.

Man these springs are tough, the front springs could be turned by hand when I raised the front off the ground. The rear was a different story, I could not turn springs by hand. I used a ratchet strap to pull the lower spring down, this allowed me to turn the spring by hand. It was a lot of work but it should be worth it in the end.

Thanks guys for the suggestions and tips.

Glad to hear it ! You’ll have a much better ride now!
If your glove compartment tool kit doesn’t have the spanner wrench they are cheap . You can also use a thick short flathead screwdriver and hammer on the rings . Spraying the top of the rings heavily with pb blaster as letting it soak down the threads helps too

Mudskipper,
I purchased a spanner but I can not get the spanner on the nut with the shock inplace. I had to turn them by hand. I ground the end of a chisel flat to loosen and tighten the lock nuts.

Perfect...ground down fat screwdriver or chisel for the win !
