Strut Light Bar or Roof Light Bar

21 - 40 of 47 Posts
I'm good with the shock tower light bar. Not sure about the A-Pillar though. I already have mirrors mounted there in the stock location.

I do have the CanAm front Pre-Bumpers which have a couple of holes for something to go since I needed the bumper for a winch.

Would you suggest THIS mounted on the pre-runner or shock tower.

Or how about THAT on the Pre-Bumper?
I think the XL-80's are a little more light than the bar.
Up to you really, but don't need both pointing straight ahead though.
That's why I put the bar straight ahead and the pods to the sides since there are 2 of them.

Either of those are going to be great choices, plus being out front and down low much less dust fog.

So, light bar. Strut mount or pre-bumper mount (if possible).

A-Pillar will have to wait till I do more measurements and see if it is even possible with the door mirrors.

Over the weekend, we did a little evening riding and found we needed more light. Talking to some and reading threads, there is a concern that if you do a roof mount there might be reflecting when the dust is up which happens a lot when you are riding in the areas. There is suggestion for a smaller strut mounted light bar. Thoughts? Or is there a better option than roof or strut? Sure, the roof can have a longer bar than the strut but is that better when riding in very dusty night situations? TIA>
For dust some lights on the bumper with an amber lens and some lights on the a-pillar seem to work the best. I have 3 Baja Design XL80s on my bumper with the amber rock guards and a pair of Squadron Pros on the A-pillar. I will turn off the a-pillar lights in dusty conditions. I like the amber rock guards as I some of the night rides so I like I can remove them and have the regular lighting.

A light bar on the shock tower will work, but I find having A-pillar lights you can adjust them to point out more and the 3 lights on the bumper fill in everything in front.

Yea, I have the amber rock guard for my shock tower bar and the xl80’s came with clear and amber lenses. I have yet to ride behind anyone at night so haven’t needed the amber yet but have them if needed.

I'm running the BD squadron sports with yellow lenses off my mirrors and i swear those suckers provide more and better light than the cheap rough country light bar I bought.

The 8 light KC hilighter setups are badass and really remind me of the 90s.

I have mirrors on the A frame, near the top where BRP would put their mirrors. I really don't like the Sizmik mirrors there and am experimenting with the ones from BRP mounted into the door.

They absolutely do.
My 2 BD XL-80's are way brighter than those cheap 40" lightbars.
It's not even just about the lumens, its also about how they are focused.

Didn't someone say that bright isn't always the best especially for dusty conditions? So I should go with Squadron Pro instead of the XL80

That depends, if you put the amber lens in it will help for sure.
They come with clear and you can get amber extra lenses pretty cheap and can be swapped fairly easily.
For me I don't ride behind anyone hardly ever, especially at night so it isn't really an issue for me.
You can reach out to the Baja Designs rep here on the forum and ask him what they suggest.
He is very helpful if you provide details about what you are looking to get out of the lights.

They come with both clear and amber and can be swapped fairly easily.

I always defer to others to lead at night. Much easier to see your taillights and drive by that.

I will reach out.

These have worked very well for me and many other people for years...

I just looked at my truck. I have rear facing light cubes and they seem to be OK. I will have to see tomorrow but the front facing ones are damned good too. All Rough Country.

I mounted two squadron pros with amber lens on my front bumper, and have a roof mounted light bar that I use when I am leading. I switched to the amber pods because when following people its almost impossible to use light bar. It is cool to have the roof bar on when leading as all the passengers are normally in aw.

Cannot stand the way the shock tower bar looks so that's why I went with the BD pods.
