your keys are not the problem
when in limp mode read the error codes
for 17 you will use the headlight trick to read codes
or a tool like pv3
the error codes will tell you why or what is wrong
to read active codes the cel must be on
the headlight trick is not easy, the instructions are in the owners manual
it always takes a few tries before you can make the trick work
here is one of many videos

there are no performance or eco keys
both are modes you can use on a standard key..the other key type is a learners key that is programed max speeds with a standard key

In other words, the keys are identical. The ECU is what is programmed to treat each key as either a performance key or an eco key.

no no no, eco and performance modes are switched on the dash
only learning keys are different ( programed) but identical
key id codes are added to the ecu lists
and are either standard or learners

Wrong. Yes, the keys are all the same (other than learning keys), but the ECU can be programmed to recognize the keys differently.

I have 2 keys, one white and one green (yes, I know that the color is irrelevant). My white key will allow me to run in either performance or Eco mode, using the button on the dash to switch between the two. If I plug the green key in, it immediately defaults to Eco mode, and will not allow me to change to performance mode using the switch on the dash.

My ECU is programmed to recognize my white key as a normal key, and my green key as Eco. I could take my car to the dealer and have my ECU reprogrammed to treat the green key as a normal key rather than Eco only.

Cage4Aged you can use your normal key to change the speed settings 1-5 or 1-3 on your learners key

Where can I find that option? Nothing in my manual about it.

BTW, I have to issue a few corrections and eat some crow regarding my previous post. I initially stated that I had a “Normal” and an “Eco” key. Turns out that the keys are actually referred to as “performance” or “normal” (I guess that there is also a “Learner/Work” key that limits speed to 27mph, but I have no other info on that). I also find it stupid that BRP calls a restricted key "Normal", but that's an argument for another time. 🤔

My green key is “normal” (torque and speed limited to 43mph) and my white key is “performance” (full torque and power). That matches the owner manual’s color/description, but keep in mind that color is not necessarily relevant since the ECU can be programmed to recognize any color key as either “normal” or “performance”. I also read somewhere that the colored inserts can be popped out of the key and switched; anyone try that? If true, with a 3d printer, you could have custom colored keys!👍

Then there are the “Drive Modes”; SPORT or ECO. Per the manual, ECO limits throttle response and maximum throttle opening, and either mode can be activated with all key types. Gonna double-check what shows up on the dash when using my green key vs white.

different canam models and years have different key types...X3 s have a mode switch on the dash (17) and the standard key can be used in all three modes. ( standard preformance and eco ).the other key type is a learning key and some years have user selected max speeds and other years are set at a lower speed.
