Has anyone started a thread on running bigger tires for the X3? What fits? What works? What needs to be done? Clutch job? Lift? I couldn't get the search function to work. I'd like to run bigger tires on a DS.
So I looked up your tire spec. It shows 52lbs on the tire. You say no issues. Reading the forums a lot of people talk about tire weight being a serious issue to the belt and performance. Have you seen any decline in power or quickness? I am looking at an EFX steal belted radial in a 32 that is rated at about 46-48 lbs. The tire looks great! I am tempted to try it. I have not seen many steal belted radial tires for a UTV. ThanksView attachment 134954 32 outback max on sti 17 inch rims. Of coarse they are 5+2 so no clearance issues. 1800km .. no belt issues, no clutching. Measures out at 17 inch clearance and 68 width . LOVE IT!!!!!!
Big T It looks like you have a stock wheel as a spare. Is there any issue with running a smaller tire for a spare with the drive line? ThanksHere's my setup
I had the Aftershocks as well and I really liked them. My problem, not the tires, was my Walker Evans wheels would not compress enough to seal the bead on them properly so I decided to give the 32" KR2s a shot. (Local shop via Jackson Racing @ 260/tire plus the shipping. I have also seen a online dealer that lists for a hair less with free shipping) The tire weight is listed at 39.5 lbs.
Regarding the width, I too had reservations, but I can confidently tell you these tires flat out hook up in desert hard pack in a RS. When I ran the Bighorns I drove in 4wd all the time as the back would get a little to loose at speed for my comfort. I drove the KR2s in 2wd nearly the entire time except for sand acceleration, climbing hills or crawling. In 4wd they have amazing acceleration but I'm trying to see what belt life I can get if I'm slightly less abusive to it and somewhat respectful of the tire and wheel weight.
The KR2s did not disappoint in high speed handling either through the bumps or flat out getting it down a trail. They gave great direction change confidence. I had very few bump steering moments trying to rip the steering wheel from my hand (which in 2 occasions I actually turned around to see what the hell I hit; big rock to one front tire both times). I imagine with less tire width it must help with steering power/control. I figured BFG knew what they were doing. In regards to air pressure I had read 20 psi but ran 17. If I was high speed through long rock sections I would want more pressure.
How wide are your wheels? They look good on the X3. Also what is the total weight mounted up? Do they measure a true 32”?
They are the 15x6 with 5.11 back spacing. The tires are actually 32.5" tall mounted on these wheels as they claim. BFG specs a 6" to 8" wheel but recommends the 7". Definitely nice to have a bit more belly clearance as the stock bighorns bottomed out and allowed the rear to hit the ground.
I did not weight them but Walker Evans lists the wheels at 18 lbs (guessing that does not included the weight of the 24 damn bolts and washers per wheel) and BFG lists the tires at 39.5 lbs for a total manufacture claimed wheel/tire weight of 57.5 lbs. If I get my car out of the trailer this weekend I'll weight them.
