I ride in the deserts in AZ and UT as well and have ridden on kanati Mongrels and Tensor Regulator. They are both excellent desert tires that will work well for you. The Tensor will wear a bit longer and are a flat profile where the Kanati Mongrel has a rounded profile.

Thank you for your question. We can order the Kanati Terra Master tires but have not sold any yet so we don't have any feedback. It looks like it is going to be a good desert tire but I just don't have any first-hand experience at this time.

 

I had Goodyear MTR w/ Kevlar tires on a pickup truck and a Jeep before. They have a similar asymmetric style of tread that these Terra Master tires have, and they worked fantastic pretty much everywhere. My wife wants me to get a set of tires "just like we had on that pickup" when the stock tires on her Grand Cherokee wear out, because the tires on "that pickup" worked so good. I tell her the Goodyear MTR w/ Kevlar tire might be a bit too aggressive for her grocery getter Grand Cherokee, but that is the tire she wants. I would bet this new Terra Master tire is going to be pretty good. I'll have to look into it a bit more.

 

I have a set of 31x10.5x15 Goodyear MTR with Kevlar I will sell for 150 each. I have a set of 4. Used a few times on the sxs. I had issues with the bead staying on with low pressure and went a different route with tires. I loved the tires and was hopeful they would work with my wheels. If interested PM me.

 

Here's some experience and advise for you. I had the Kanati Mongrel on my prior PoPo as a replacement for the stock tire. I chose them primarily because they were DOT and thought they would work well here in the Tucson desert. I had them on for about 600 miles before I sold the machine and bought the X3 X RC. When I had to ride on the street to get from trail to trail they were less than desirable due to noise and vibration. In the desert they did okay but the rounded profile tends to follow ruts and the stiffer sidewalls made the ride a bit harsh and less forgiving. They are overall harder tires and seemed to soak up less of the chop than others I've ridden on in the past. They are also designed for higher pressures. Once I got the X3 and rode the Maxxis Liberty it was a night and day difference especially when adjusting pressures for the type of terrain you ride on. I've found the flatter profile tires work better in desert and in my experience you can run lower pressures for better ride. In addition, when selecting a tire, be mindful of weight. The lighter tires mean less unsprung weight which equals better handling. I like the Liberty tire but there are others out there that will fit your need well. Good luck with your decision.

 

I have 1100 mi on the Mongrels 10x14x30's and I am looking to step up to 32's as well. I would have no complaint about the 32's in a mongrel as they have been perfect tires for the desert and rock areas we ride in SO CA.

The 30's Mongrels I run are very durable and I have had zero flats. The sweet spot for me is 14 P.S.I. They track well at high speeds, corner well and seem to do very good rock crawling. I bought them for a all purpose tire and they do most thing well. Having said that do not not expect much from them in deep loose gravel or sand. But that is not what you were asking for.

In the end because I have owned a set already I probable will choose another tire just because I want to try something new.

Right now I got wood for the Tensor Regulator 32x10R-15's.

And your choice on the 15x7 6+1 DWT Sector Zero wheels I think would be something you would never regret.

I'm surprised you didn't list the ultracross r spec. Seems like a very appreciated tire for your conditions.

 

I had a set of 30" Ultracross R Spec tires on a 2016 Polaris XP Turbo, and loved them. But when I put a set of 31" Ultracross R Spec tires on 2017 Maverick X3 RS and I had mixed feelings about them. High speed handling was fantastic, and they were super tough. But traction in gravel or sand on top of hard pack was quite poor. The extra power of the X3 just seemed to blow the tires off the road, and all they did was spin. You really weren't going anywhere unless you were in four wheel drive. The 32" Ultracross is a little wider though, and may hook up better in loose terrain.

I wanted to try something different this time. Still trying to decide between the Kanati Mongrel and Kanati Tera Master. I looked at a set of EFX Moto Hammer tires at a dealership today, and the tread pattern looks nice, but the rubber compound felt pretty hard. I also just found out that STI is making a beadlock wheel with 6+1 offset now, and it looks a little better than the DWT wheel does.

I would not get the Mongrels unless you like fixing flats. They are a heavy tire that is not durable from what I have seen personally. A person I ride with runs the 32s and the sidewalls are weak. He has punctured a few of the tires.

I run the 32" ITP Ultracross and have no complaints. The 32" is a wider profile than the 31" version, which I ran on my XP1000. Have lots of miles on them in the So. Cal desert, Baja and some mountain trails. No issues with the tires.

 

Look at what the desert racers (BITD) run. They have done a lot more testing than any of us keyboard jockeys.

I was running Mongrels 30x10x14 seem to have a lot of flex in the sidewalls, switched to Ultracross 31x9.5x15 , I like the ITP lots better, so far been good in the desert, and Forest.

They did great did not have any problems. My wheels are 15X6

 

I have found 12 PSI works really good. I was running lower pressure (8PSI) and broke a driveline and front axle rock crawling. The tires have too much grip at lower pressure unless you are careful with the throttle. If you use too muck parts break. I know first hand.

Love the tires, they are tough as nails and at a higher PSI, they will slip slightly instead of gripping and ripping.

 

Interesting and good to know, perhaps I should only get the 120hp turbo...

 

Haven't seen the STI Chicane RX tires mentioned. A friend runs them in desert racing and they do really well. Was leaning toward these In 32x15 but id like to hear more feedback if anyone has it.

 

I'm seeing the same thing, DOT approved also.. Like to hear if anyone tried them.

 

I'm thinking about the Mongrels myself, friend of mine put 6k miles on his RZR with a set. Great reviews at 2Wheel.com

note: need to be DOT approved tire for me to purchase. eventually going street legal here in Michigan.

 

I had the libertys on my popo and pre ran the 1000 after wards I discoverd my check engine light was the 4x4 circut so I basicaly ran about 90% of it in 2 wheel drive never had a problem thier dot and run smooth on the a/c at 70 I couldent believe I dident have 4 wheel drive because we went thru some pretty knarly terrain and the silt Ithought it was funny that I couldent get up on top it felt like it was plowing but we made it fine Id also look at the maxxis carnivoirs there a great tire and light for thier size

 

I’ve been running 32in tensor ds hard compound for 1400miles and there holding up great. With bitd changing max tire size to 33in next year I’m hoping tensor and bfg release 33in race tires.

 

Tensor tire pre-run San feline and the 500 with no flats.

 

I run them 31x14 all over nv az and utah think the are great.

 

I just installed a set of 32x10R-15 Tensor Regulator tires with Method 409 15x7 4-156 5+2 wheels to test. Going out in the morning at sun rise for a couple of hours to play on some rock crawling trails. Won't be out long as it's going to be 110 in Phoenix tomorrow.

This set up was amazing in the rocky forest up North in AZ.

The Tensor Regulator tires measures 32.3 inches tall not mounted on the machine. They are super tough and durable plus they are DOT approved.
