where to put temp sending unit?, updated with install pics

i am going to add a temp gauge and was wondering where is the best place to add the sensor.

As close to the head as possible in line of the return?

Is there a plug i can remove and install one?

can i tap into the stock one?

after reading the link i picked up an AutoMeter adapter (part # 2277) i did have to drill it out a little to fit the sending unit. I used a 5/16" drill bit and it fits perfectly.

i removed the stock plug and a little coolant came out which was good. this way i dont have to worry about bleeding out any air out of the system.

Are you installing a different temp gauge because you want or need to see the actual numerical value?
The bars dont give you much.

i wanted to watch the temp during summer dune rides. a bar graph never works good enough for me.
That's what I thought when I first saw the bar graph. Not enough detail info.
