Thought I heard somewhere that skats are coming out with a carbon fiber infused paddle ?maybe it would hold up better . Warlock or Tim might know something .

Warlock knows about them but I think it's his inside secret trick that might be outta the bag now. I don't think it's anything that extreme is producing to the masses.

 

The Extreme haulers on my 450 are smooth as glass between the paddles. I have people comment that they have never seen any worn down that much. The paddles are in great shape and not one single plug. I am definitely getting Skats for my X3 and most definitely staying away from any molded heavy stuff. Just my 2 cents.

It is not recommended to run Kevlar paddles for extended wear purposes. They are only for strength. You will have fiber strings hanging everywhere when they wear. I have been riding the Oregon Dunes for 30+ years hand have owned multiple set of Skats as well. I as well have seen many of pair worn down from our gravel and pavement access requirements. I have chosen that the only way to get more life is get a larger and thicker paddle. That is why I chose Rippers. I like how well they wore on quads. Running 8 paddle staggered Rippers is my assumptive equivalent to 10-paddle extremes. I hope to do some testing with others running extremes this month.

 

Skat also makes a rugged paddle option for areas that are sand and desert terrain: "Desert Storm & Terrain Trak". These can be configured with different amounts of paddles and can be placed on the 30" extreme carcuss.

Yeah, CST also has a newer Sandblast 32x10-15 and 32x12-15 that would be interested in feedback on as from what I have found they are only 21.9 lbs for front and 30.3 lbs rears.

I have the DS and considering getting the 30" Skats, but really like the razor front type of tires. I'm not a big fan with the front
buff smoothies, that's just me. With that, does anyone have this setup? Looking for some suggestions on what front tire
would work with the rear skats.

 

You'd be surprised at how well a buffered tire works. The rough surface helps the hook up in turns and such. Skats are paired to buffed tires with a larger roll out for that reason. Not sure any ribbed front will be beneficial

I've driven a few with the buffed tires, I just prefer the razor type or rib front. If it wont work, then I'll need a different rear.

I have a set of 31.5 scats, probably my only complaint is the front smooth buffs, They don't turn very well in the trails, lots of pushing though the turn!

I think a desert track up front would be better, atleast have a little more bite, and shave off the inner part and leave the outside little blades. Its the outside corner of the tire that in a corner has the most bite. I want the 4x4 to pull me around the corner.

 

This cut on the front works great for me :big smile:

 

The smaller Front Rib tires act more as a Pivot point. We call them Pivot tires for that reason. When Duning the Pivot tires make sure you keep both hands on the wheel as it will pull to the side that touches down first and can cause the wheel to turn inward and cause a possible crash. It just happened to a guy that was riding with my Buddies and the Blackbird Front grabbed on a down hill drop and pulled right wheel in and he went Left and Rolled it.

Ive never had a issue with the car coming down and the car yanking to one side or another.

One "hand-it" to turn the radio on before puttin on the harness. Riding One "hand-it" is slightly safer than running hoops on a dbike one handed. <=No good. JS :big smile:

 

I have had those tributes and I also had them directional cut. If you don't cut them, they have paddles going both ways and would be neutral from a push pull standpoint. By cutting them and making them a left and right only, I can see if you float a little and come down on only one front that it will pull to that side and if you weren't expecting it to pull that way it could, but what would be different then say a 3-rib turning tire landing on one wheel?

I know this thread is old but had a couple questions. Im picking up some pro armor paddles ( 30x14x14 rear and 30x11x14 rear). I know they are on the heavy side. I only do one dune trip a season to Pismo which are very small dunes. Should I go with a 14x10 wheel for the rear and 14x8 for the front? Having trouble finding a lot of wheels in those sizes. Do I really need beadlock wheels for the paddles? I figure later down the road I can get skats or stu’s when I start making more trips. I just want something for now that will work better than the stock tires.

 

Method 406 has 14 x 8, 14 x 10, and it's a beadlock too. So you kind of kill 2 birds with 1 stone, so to speak. JMO, but there are better tires, and might be cheaper than the Polaris Pro Armors.

 

You don't need beadlocks on paddles its just added weight imo. Pro armor are about the worst too. If you go with that setup bring 2 extra belts. If you can afford them the warlock scats are the king of the hill. Stu's the 2nd. Extream tire of az have good wheel and paddle pacages

 

Your big horns 8psi will probably do just as good as pro armor. Don't waste the money ???

 

I agree, especially at Pismo. Air down your big horns, have fun, and enjoy the money you saved.
