What paddles for X3

What size and style skats for the X3? Where is a good place to buy from? I always have bought from Fullerton, maybe somewhere else?

Buy some and try them out, there is not enough cars out there to know what works. IF you search this site you will find all kinds of BS as to what works and what doesn't. BUT its all crap, NOONE has enough seat time in one of these with different styles of sand tires. Just wait till Thanksgiving and hopefully there will be enough info out on what ACTUALLY works.

Fullerton doesn't sell Xtreme Warlock Skats. So I'm not sure how they will Test Skats Fairly. They push there heavy molded tires since they have the most profit in them as there is little labor in them other than moving them off a truck lol. Light is Right.

I guess that what I was asking. They sold me STU's a long time ago and they seemed to work ok, but I've always liked skats on my 4 wheelers. I didn't even call them about paddles for the X3 because I'm sure they would say STU's and I'm sure while they would work they wouldn't really be the best.

Megadesertdiesel is right, testing with sand tires has not been done with the new X3 yet. FSS will be doing a tire test with STU and Scats, just not the extremes. I am sure if you have a X3 Warlock you can be a part of the test, info is good for everyone, not just someones opinion. Once again Warlock, you are saying things of which you seem to know nothing, STU are a cut tire. The paddles are shaved to your specific needs for your riding and machines horsepower. Most of the time I am just amused by what you say as it is entertainment, but when you give misinformation I will say something. I do not know how you are aware of FSS profit on the tires they sell, see you all in the dunes, Kevin.

2 guys on here compared the Skats and STUs on the turbo mavs and I believe both of them run Skats now. You can read the review if you can find it on here. I have ran my skats vs STUs. In the end Use what you want but I choose Skats. On quads and UTVs. Good luck with whatever you choose to purchase.

I know Im gonna run the new 30" Strippers on mine when I get a X3. I have the Strippers HP 28" On my 16 Turbo. Works great, and have the durability with all the rocks/sticks/roots here at the oregon dunes. Also A lot of the camp grounds are dirt/gravel/pavement to access the dunes and the scats just don't hold up as good on those surfaces! Im a longevity type of person. Love Scats on all my bikes though.

This is the one of the reasons why I decided to go with Rippers as a paddle instead of Extreme. They are larger and thicker and wear a lot better. Tried a set for my Renegade a few years back and was impressed with the way they held up compared to my Extremes I was running on my ATV.

What ever paddle you get make sure it is a 30" tire size.

The stock bighorns actually worked surprisingly well yesterday on the XRS. It helps the 30" bighorns are the same width front and back.

My buddy has ran comp cuts for a couple seasons and his never leaked down. He now went back to comp cuts for this upcoming season. Dave is comp cutting my #1's now. I am gonna run comp cut #1 paddles on my RS which is just slightly shorter than a #2 paddle which works great on a stock XPT. We'll find out how they work, it was either comp cut mine or buy new set up...gonna try the comp cut first.

I ran Skats on my quads and they liked to go more straight line than dune. Not saying they wouldn't dune but they liked to dig. I loved them and they worked great, I just wanted to try something different. I'm sure the Skats work great on the utv's, but I was more than happy with my STU's last season. I lead a lot of the time and the STU's seem to throw less sand up so it's better for the guys behind me

The X3 is fastest with the stock 28" tires and this was confirmed at my Glamis test ride on Sunday. The Base and DS are noticeably quicker with the smaller 28" and 29" tires over the 30" tires of the RS. I suppose it could be the extra weight of the car, but larger diameter might be holding it back some if its clutched the same as the other two X3's. That being said I am going to try my 28" Skats first before buying new paddles.

Like was stated earlier, Wad master and Joe Pitt did quite a bit of testing at Glamis in a 2 and 4 seater turbo . The final conclusion was the Warlocks ran faster in a timed distance and also ran I believe 20 degrees cooler on the razor back gauge than the STU tire.

I was in that group that weekend and Wad Master told me " I am going to post the results up regardless of who does or doesn't like them". He said he didn't think there would be much of a difference.

Needless to say Wad Master went out and bought the Warlocks.

For all the people who keep calling "STU BASHER " I won't run and Xtreme tire on my sand car, I tried them and don't like them, I only run STU now.

For the side by side I already had Skat, but after seeing what Wad Master found I bought the Warlocks.

Just a note Wad master was very scientific and methodical about his testing. This wasn't just a " I liked them Better " he actually logged quite a bit a data and wrote it down though out the day. From what I gathered he didn't have and issue with the duning either as he is typically the leader of our group.

So, I suspect the results will be similar with the X3.

I would surmise a guess that the light weight and large surface area of the Warlocks has sometime to do with the success.

Tim, I hear you, do not think you are a basher. This test is being done with the X3, not the old maverick. Not everyone drives the same in the dunes, the guys that set at Olds and run the hill or the drags at the ranger station may need a different cut than the guys that rip the dunes all trip. The guy that dunes with his family a lot may want a different cut yet. The best tire for the turbo Polaris may not be the one for the X3. That is the point for any kind of test. You guys that already have your minds made up so be it. They will even test stock to see the change. The test may show that with the X3 there is not much of difference between the tire choice or type of riding you do. That is not even considering whether you want some traction with your front tires or not. But to think what ever worked on the old car will be the best for the X3 with different weight and clutching might or might not be true. The bottom line is we are all trying to cram the most fun in our trips possible, just get to the dunes, have fun in your toys, Kevin.

I agree with the vast majority of what you have said. I do think that you can use previous experience with the old car to get an idea of what may work.

The truth is you can get around just fine with the big horns.

Hmmmm Last Time I checked Tim and Wadmaster and most Skat owners don't sit at the Hill drag racing all afternoon or at the Drags. Lol. I love how people always like to say Skat are just a hill tire or a Drag tire LMAO. A lot of the guys here on Maverick forums have owned both and they a sharper than your average guys and look what they run. Just Sayin.

for the record I hadn't made my mind up prior to testing both. Actually it was in my best interest finacialaly to stick to the STU's as I already spent alot of money
The question is did you still blow belts after the switch?

Bottom line is there is no wrong or right answer on what is the best set up. It is about what feels comfortable to you and fits into the type of driving you want to do.

Wadmaster - I only asked about the blown belt because some think running Skats will somehow prevent it.

The lower temp gauge reading on belt temp can be deceiving as they are not as accurate as some may think. It is not going to tell you when the belt will let go. Depending on which one you have the reading is more of the air temp near the belt versus the actual temp. I had a long conversation with a desert race team about the temp gauge and why they don't run one. They did run one in the past.

When I finally broke a belt, I felt it slip and heard a pop noise and about 100 yards later it went bye bye.

This is a thread about paddles for the X3 but it is like the others in that for some reason people get defensive about whatever they have chosen. They feel the need to not only defend their choice but belittle any other product. News flash I am not a Can Am guy, I am getting the X3 because I think it is the best SXS available right now. I chose a wildcat back in 2012 because it had new things to offer the industry. I do not care which forum you go to, YXZ, Polaris, Arctic Cat or even this forum why must every thing else be junk, right now the feeding frenzy are X3 belts, last year Yxz clutches, you guys get what I am saying. It seems stupid to not step back and have everyone laugh at what the forums are mostly about. I have never said to myself Tatum sand cars are junk why would some idiot buy that instead of a Larry Minor jeep. Now why they all want to race from a 35 mile per hour roll, that makes no sense, ha ha. Any way just an observation now that I am reading all I can on the forums about the X3, see you in the dunes, Kevin.

I just got back from Gordon Wells (south of Glamis). I ran the following paddles today as a test.
1. Skat Trak 30*13*14 10 Paddle on a 14x9 Douglas Sector Bead lock 6BS+3 offset with full buff 30*13*14 on the same wheels, but in a 14*8 with 6BS+2.
2. GMZ Sand Stripper XL 30*15*15 10 paddle on GMZ Casino Bead Locks (15*10) with GMZ Tri Rib Strippers on Casino Bead Locks (15*8).
3. STU 28" Blasters #2 Cut on HiPer 14*10 5+5 and STU 28" Tri-Rib fronts on HiPer 14*8 4+4.

I tried many combos, air pressures, mixed and matched too. I'll do a write up in the next few days. But in my personal opinion, the STU's out performed the Skats. This weekend, I am trying out a STU 1300's in a few different cuts on 15" Wheels with STU desert traks single rib cut.. I'll let you know how that goes.

Hey Marlboroman, what did you think of the GMZ's sand stripper xls on the maverick x3? I had 28s on my xrs but they were just to small and I've been looking all over for the xls but theyre backordered everywhere! I guess the distributor for the gmzs in socal has been waiting for a shipment to come in for a while...
