Hey what’s up guys. I’m looking for some advice on what big turbo to go with. My car is going to be strictly a dune car/drag racing in between. Also would run on e85. Im planing to install the bc duner cams and obviously supporting mods.
what turbo to run?
-xr42
-xr54
-pure turbo
-gtx2860

Maybe your running a specific turbo lmk what’s your experience with it.

XR42 and 54 are going to be more laggy then the pure. not too many people running the 2860 but it's probably between the two xona turbos. Pure also does a 46mm that is an interesting option, but at 3K it makes less sense unless you're trying to keep that stock look.

i'm running a K&T mod turbo, makes 31.5lbs of boost with the BC stage 2 cams, at 1100 feet of elevation. solid little turbo, almost no lag.

What have you done to the internals?

the xr 52 is huge for a tiny 900, 550+ HP, way too big for dunning
you need to make a disision on boost what you want to run
the xr 42 is 48mm, more realistic @ 450hp
the bigger the turbo the more lag
evo just released some nice turbos
the gtx 2860 gen 2 is just slight smaller than the xr42 but makes similar power
whalen pure is only 42 mm not 46
also the smaller the exhaust ( turbine) wheel the faster turbo spool
but they dont make as much hp as a bigger wheel on the same size compressor
IMO around low 30s psi is where the 900 runs nice and happy
turbos in this range have very little lag great for the dunes
a mod stock turbo at 30 has to be running the turbo at its max output
this makes lots of heat and hard on the tiny turbo, not the best for long life
low to mid 40mm are perfect for this boost range

not sure why a 46 would beat up a 48
sounds like one was running only 3 bar sensors
3 bar sensors can only see about 30psi past that
they will throw a code on a stock ecu
many stock internal cars around are running high 20s to low 30s psi

Something tells me cars on motec are running more than just three bar sensors. The build sheet was on the d&m IG on Sunday. In a drag race, less time to make full boost/power just won the race. The car was leaving hard.
