It's supposed to only come on for a second or two when your first start the bike then go off. And yes, it's just for when you connect the two extra diagnostic wires together in order to get the trouble codes. Does it even do that?
Mine got pinched somehow and broke off. I lost my power steering. Made it back to truck and stripped wires. They are soldered in the plastic protection. When I lost mine it also blew the 15amp fuse in my fuse box. Not the inline fuse.
