Still Over heating!!!!!

I have a 2014 maverick xxc that i have been fighting with over heating issues off and on for the last 2 riding seasons I have tried everything that has been suggested on this forum from manufactures bleeding procedure to hillside bleeding fan over ride and removable grill this is getting very frustrating being that guy who holds the group up! It mainly happens when we hit gravel roads and throw it into high gear the temp starts rising and i go into limp mode. I keep my rad clean and flush it when ever we hit the creek on the trail and it doesn't seem to help? I am looking at the TCP radiator but by the time i get it to my door I am looking at over $900.00 for something I should not have to do:furious:.
Please help looking for suggestions

On a car when you over heat on higher speeds, it usually means the thermostat is stuck open. The water flows so quickly through the radiator it doesn't get a chance to cool down.

Obviously it is not normal so I feel buying a new radiator isn't the answer. Maybe giving everyone a list of what you have tried will help.

I appreciate the feed back here is a list of what I have tried so far
-Hill side bleeding numerous times
-Manufactures recommended bleeding procedure
-clean radiator with coil cleaner
-Keeping radiator clean on the trail
-Fan over ride on soon as i start riding
-When temp limp mod happens pull over shut unit down with fan running and starting every few minutes till unit cools down which makes me believe the water pump is still working

This is baffling me as I can go hours in low gear trail riding and not over heat some days and not other and when I run in high gear at higher speeds the temp rises into limp mod?

I know this is going to soun a bit odd but I have seen it many times before. It does just what you are describing. I have seen a few cooling fans wired backwards, put a peice of paper in front of the rad while the fan is on and make sure the fan is actually pulling air throught the radiator, dont assume, check it.

Thermostats are cheap. Replace it. See what happens. Seems like a restriction somewhere.

If you are not boiling and it is going into limp mode, it sounds like a sensor maybe bad.

i had allways problems with overheating because i ride ofen in mud and it is not easy to clean the Radiator. It looks like clean but it is not realy clean.

i have relocated the Radiator from my commander and my Maverick.

things baught from TCP and rubberdown.

i have tested it ca 500km an there were no overheating. It works great.

my Tipp: Relocation and all Time no overheating.

I was hoping not having to relocate my radiator but will do for last resort, I just ordered a new thermostat $80.00!!!:disappointed: and I will try a new sensor hope it works fingers crossed:question:

If the thermostat is not working you usually spit coolant out the vent hose because you are actually overheating. Not sure what temp. the Maverick is set to go into limp mode.

If you are not spitting coolant, my bet is still a faulty sensor.

Sorry for your frustration. I had the same problem on my Commander after the "wye" from the radiator broke and I lost lots of coolant. Although I bled the cooling system numerous times, the overheating continued. Extremely frustrating!!! I purchased a new radiator cap, a new thermostat, and a new sensor. After replacing only the radiator cap and one more system bleeding, the problem disappeared. Still have the thermostat and sensor in my tool kit. I believe it was a bubble in the cooling system that finally got out after over numerous bleeding exercises with lifting front, side, as per recommendations. Good luck.

i would say if its not a sensor or tstat take you rad off completely, and lay in flat and wash it out. you would be surprised how much crap can be stuck in there even if it looks clean. i ended up doing the tcp mudder rad and its been flawless.
but i just washed my old rad to sell and i couldn't believe the stuff that came out after i soaked it in wheel cleaner for a few minutes

Just a suggestion, had this same thing happen on my commander temp. gauge would go right up soon has I started doing high speed riding fan would go on but it won't cool it down and would go into limp mode put up with it for 3 weekends then let machine dry out a couple of days blew radiator out with compressed air. Lots of dirt in there thought I got it out weekend b4 with pressure washer. If you decide to do it blow air from back of radiator forward to front of machine use a long thin piece of copper tubing to with quick coupler on it to reach in there and it really concentrates where the air blows so you can get in between all the fins. That was the problem. Radiator wouldn't let air flow threw fins to cool the coolant down. Happens from getting radiator wet going threw puddles than following someone on dusty trails everything clings too radiator.

Well I decided to take the plunge and relocate the dam rad up top and all I can say it was sure nice not having to watch my temp gauge or baby it through the holes and tip toe around every mud hole stayed at 2 bars all weekend!!!!
