The alignment has been acting a bit funny recently. Tore everything apart and found a large amount of mud/sand/water in the bellows and inside the steering rack.
The ball and socket joints on both sides, and the rack, are completely worn out.
I dont think its the machines fault, Ive been running 30" Terrabites for about 1000 miles on rocky trails. Looks like water and muck got into there and just created a nice abrasive bath for everything.
Just a PSA it might be a good idea to pull those bellows back on the steering rack and inspect for any foul play. I plan to start checking them every couple rides now.
Free Shipping in the Lower 48 States Our billet race rack for the Can-Am X3 is now available (all models) Keep in mind that this rack requires new, longer tie rods. If you have stock tie rods then you need a "COMPLETE" tie rod kit. If you have our BSD tie rod kit or any other aftermarket tie...
I'm guessing one of the bellows that covers the inner tie rod joints. I've done some deepish water crossings but nothing too crazy. Probably a mud hole in TN in spring 2019. Sat in muddy water for 30 mins...
Water will get in there when riding or washing. More than likely when washing due to most use a pressure washer and don’t know how not to tear crap up. OP are you sure your rack is shot? We’ve got guys with 17 model x3’s with over 10k miles and still on original rack. The sport may have a different supplier but I doubt it.
The X3 and Sport have different rack designs. I could of maybe kept using it but the back side of the rack had deep scoring from it being filled with sandy muddy water. Its definitely not from a pressure washer... I never use one on that machine. The water looked like a milkshake.
I almost bet that water has been stuck in there since spring 2019..... There was ZERO indication that water was trapped inside until the alignment started to get bad.
I've got the new rack coming soon and I'll be fixing her up before the real riding season starts for me. I don't think the rack is weak or the machine is at fault. Just have to check inside the boots and grease that stuff up once and a while. The yellow Scotch brand locktite can am uses is no joke btw.... Pretty crappy job getting the rack out. Hopefully someone can use the info to keep their steering working properly!
interesting that it found a way in but not a way out.
