I know, here we go again!!!

So I was at st Anthony for 9 days last week, rained almost entire time again. I had (2) full sets of tires. 30/11/14 10 paddle extremes and Tom's (TIK in forum, he runs them on his X3 DS) full set 28" #2 STU paddles with 3 rib fronts

Extremes: throw sand like crazy, lots of wheel speed, the fronts even buffed do help in 4wd, very fast on top end, decent stability when dunning at high speed, 7" rims all corners, running 9 psi = conclusion, not enough tire for tuned machines, would be perfect on stock machine though

STU 28" #2 : more paddles helped launch harder, not throwing as much sand, more stable while dunning due to being wider, 4wd didn't seem much different, turned better, slower on top end, being shorter was noticeable as that extra ground clearance is needed when coming into dips fast not wanting to plow front end carrying momentum, 8 wide rims front, 10" rear, overall weight was close on fronts, rears were few lbs heavier each, running 9psi = conclusion, molded are less fragile in lave / rocky area, would prefer these in 30" if I was to buy, they dune better when running high speed due to width, would even consider a #1 paddle maybe?

If it's any hint of wet sand, stock 30" tires aired down do better then any paddle, I saw stock machines doing very well while it was slightly wet, as things dried out paddles had advantage

So now I am going to buy a set of 31.5" or 30"stagger rippers and run them on 8" front and back I think, there goes another $2k

Haha, we shall see in a few days once i get to the sand just how good they hook. My buddies are going with me that have 16 & 17 rzr turbos. The 16 is running Xtremes 30X13X14 8 paddle setup and the 17 is running the same only in a 9 paddle. 14X8 and 14X10 wheels on their setups. I can beat the 17 pretty easily on pavement on my stock tires so we'll see how it converts over to the sand.

How about this for information to chew on.
15" wheel FAKE Skats from a Chinese carcass from Fake Skat Sales are $125 more than the Made in America by Goodyear Xtreme Warlock Skats. [emoji12][emoji12]

Rode Florence all weekend, here my input on the STU Blackbirds setup. STU Blackbirds did awesome out here in the Oregon dunes. Lots of hookup! Can run 2wd literally just about everywhere. Raced at south jetty in 4wd and had no issues taking some wins! The front tributes comp cut pulled the front very well! The 652 High Performance Belt has been holding up great so far. Dishwasher machine washed, Broke in, and have about 100 miles on it so far. I will say I lost some top end saw 7400 Rpms up comp Hill in 4wd and 7250 on the flats in 2wd. I think it's time to do a clutch upgrade. Overall very happy with the way they performed, both hook up and turning ability. I was playing with a guy back and fourth taking turns who could go further up the hill on the face of the comp Hill...could almost come to a stop mid Hill and nail it and continue to the top. He didn't have as much luck!

Stu Blackbirds #2 Comp cut with Tributes comp cut with reverse paddle shaved. Aired down to 6lbs rear and 7lbs front. (Sand was the softest We have seen)

Figured this would be a good spot to share my first dune trip with my XRS

Since I live on the east coast, the closest place I have to dune ride is Silver Lake MI. Been going there with my family since 2002, and this year was my first time going out with a SXS with enough power to justify buying paddles for it.

Before the trip I installed a full stainless custom exhaust I ordered from Unobtanium welding, and also sent my ECM out for a Stage 2 tune from PwrTune.

Now for the paddles.. I know most guys on here are all about Skats, but for one week of dune riding a year, I wanted to go a more cost effective route.

I ended up buying a total Pro Armor wheel and tire setup for under $1k. Went with 30x14x14, 16 paddle rears on 14x10 wheels. And 30x11x14 fronts on 14x8 wheels.. total rear width ended up being 81", and front was 78"

I have very little paddle tire knowledge, but I can say that this setup seemed to work very well for me. Only thing I think would make it better is some clutching to get the rpms up.

There are several dynamics to which tire is best and a lot depends on what your goals are. Occasional use, cruising around having fun, any paddle is great. If hill shooting, drag racing and tire weight are on top of your list then things change and get expensive quickly

Want to purchase 31.5x13x14 skat trac front and rear, probably 10 paddle from extreme tire for our xds.My concern is that I might experience rubbing issues on either front or rear which I do not want.If that is the case maybe 30x13x14?.not sure what to do.
Thanks for any recommendations.

Got my 31.5's on my stock 7" wide wheels. While they are just about as wide as the bighorns they are taller and much more round on top. They seem to flex really well with 10 psi up front and 13 psi in the rear. And while these claim to be 13" wide they are more like 9-10" wide.

As for flotation I agree that wider does help in soft sand when moving slow, but just like my dirt bike doesn't seem to matter once moving.

Oneshotkyle is in the wetter Oregon sand and may not need the flotation as much.

I like the wider profile as it is more stable and sticks to the bowls.

30x13x14 vs 30x14x14 10 paddle skats on a xds, mostly free riding and the occasional race at sand mountain nv.Any recommendations or pros cons on which to choose having a hard time deciding. Also will I even notice a difference?
Thanks
