I know, here we go again!!!

So I was at st Anthony for 9 days last week, rained almost entire time again. I had (2) full sets of tires. 30/11/14 10 paddle extremes and Tom's (TIK in forum, he runs them on his X3 DS) full set 28" #2 STU paddles with 3 rib fronts

Extremes: throw sand like crazy, lots of wheel speed, the fronts even buffed do help in 4wd, very fast on top end, decent stability when dunning at high speed, 7" rims all corners, running 9 psi = conclusion, not enough tire for tuned machines, would be perfect on stock machine though

STU 28" #2 : more paddles helped launch harder, not throwing as much sand, more stable while dunning due to being wider, 4wd didn't seem much different, turned better, slower on top end, being shorter was noticeable as that extra ground clearance is needed when coming into dips fast not wanting to plow front end carrying momentum, 8 wide rims front, 10" rear, overall weight was close on fronts, rears were few lbs heavier each, running 9psi = conclusion, molded are less fragile in lave / rocky area, would prefer these in 30" if I was to buy, they dune better when running high speed due to width, would even consider a #1 paddle maybe?

If it's any hint of wet sand, stock 30" tires aired down do better then any paddle, I saw stock machines doing very well while it was slightly wet, as things dried out paddles had advantage

So now I am going to buy a set of 31.5" or 30"stagger rippers and run them on 8" front and back I think, there goes another $2k

can you run 100LL, av gas? I can point you where to get it in rexburg, $4.50 gallon or so. Av gas rates around 103 octane I think

the other thing we do with out group when someone needs higher octane and were traveling, is we fill ours with the race fuel and once a few cans clear up we grab some 91 locally so that way we don't run out of the high octane

Our Airport Fuel depot tests the AV 10OLL DAILY, it's always 114 octane as rated for cars. Can't go wrong ever with AV Gas.

12 paddle stager ripper would be interesting

what I am going to do is sell my 30" set now that I know I like my 31.5's rippers. I then am going to buy (2) more of same rims and a set of rears only 31.5 (9) paddle extremes. That way I have both ends covered and can swap depending on sand conditions, type of ridding etc.... I ride Dumont, Sand mnt Nevada and St Anthony

Just finished up reading this entire thread over the weekend and have 1 question. Please don't laugh, remember I was the one guy who had to ask what NSFW stood for. Anyhow I still need a good explanation of what rollout is and how it relates to tire diameter and variations front and rear.
Thanks.

So it's just another way to specify the size of tire and has nothing to do with paddle count, paddle size or spacing. Do the manufacturers generally list diameter by carcass or does it include the paddle as well?

Warlock and the Extreme Skats he loves are generally the ones that talk about rollout. All the molded tires use diameter or tire size.

The reason why they measure the Roll out is to make sure the customer knows what he get is the correct size. We all have seen the sidewall sizes and they are almost always wrong.
So for example lay the tire down against the corner of a wall or what ever works for you to get a true measurement in inches and then Multiply that number by 3.14 and you will have the Roll out without a paddle tip hitting the ground and throwing off your measurements.
Skat-Trak always measures them on the Buffing machine at 15psi.
100" Rollout 32" X 3.14 =100.48.
Skat-Trak and Tim make sure the front Tire roll out is larger so the Hilliard 4wd system would engage faster and stay engaged.
You don't run smaller front tires on you trucks do you? I would make sure when you buy a set of Fake Skats that your front tires are not shorter as that's gonna cause steering push in the corners. And cause front diff issues.

I am going to stay with my 31.5 rippers, also will get me another set of rears with (9) paddle extremes for Dumont. I am also getting a set of molded 30" rock paddles to run with my stock fronts for Winnemucca and some areas of sand mnt nev so I can pull front end up with ease. If we get really crap weather again this winter I will just run stock dirt tires all around. Going to need a trailer to haul all my tires!!!

Here are my 2 cents on Paddles..

In the Oregon Dunes with my 17 X3 XRS there isn't a hill I can't climb in 4WD with the Stock BigHorns Aired down a bit.. Its not even a struggle.. So don't think Paddles are required for the Dunes..

Paddles.. IMHO Skats are the Best (Been running them 20+ years on my Quads) They are _Lighter_, flex better, and offer better flotation than any molded Paddle out there.. If you can afford them get the Skats.. If you can't Save $$ until you can.. or get the lightest molded paddles you can find.. Rotating weight is huge and the less the better in the dunes..

Sand is obviously a harder terrain and requires more HP to run in and generates more heat overall, the machine just has to work harder all around.. You are going to blow belts quicker in sand.. Adding paddles and airing them down for max traction and driving in 2wd with a Heavy foot is going to decrease belt life even more..

Tips to extend Belt life in the Dunes with Paddles.
Run in 4WD.
Don't turn the machine off after a hard run.. Let it idle for 2min to let the clutches and belt cool..
Air up the paddles a lil bit (More Spin but less traction) but less stress on the belt.. Play with the Air pressure a bit.. If your gonna drag race, take a sec and air down a little.. but for cruising around.. Air up a bit

McGregor is kinda playing in Mayweathers game, so they should do a cage fight and see how that goes to.

I want Mayweather to step into the cage with McGregor. I think that would be a Frickin sell out to.
