I know, here we go again!!!

So I was at st Anthony for 9 days last week, rained almost entire time again. I had (2) full sets of tires. 30/11/14 10 paddle extremes and Tom's (TIK in forum, he runs them on his X3 DS) full set 28" #2 STU paddles with 3 rib fronts

Extremes: throw sand like crazy, lots of wheel speed, the fronts even buffed do help in 4wd, very fast on top end, decent stability when dunning at high speed, 7" rims all corners, running 9 psi = conclusion, not enough tire for tuned machines, would be perfect on stock machine though

STU 28" #2 : more paddles helped launch harder, not throwing as much sand, more stable while dunning due to being wider, 4wd didn't seem much different, turned better, slower on top end, being shorter was noticeable as that extra ground clearance is needed when coming into dips fast not wanting to plow front end carrying momentum, 8 wide rims front, 10" rear, overall weight was close on fronts, rears were few lbs heavier each, running 9psi = conclusion, molded are less fragile in lave / rocky area, would prefer these in 30" if I was to buy, they dune better when running high speed due to width, would even consider a #1 paddle maybe?

If it's any hint of wet sand, stock 30" tires aired down do better then any paddle, I saw stock machines doing very well while it was slightly wet, as things dried out paddles had advantage

So now I am going to buy a set of 31.5" or 30"stagger rippers and run them on 8" front and back I think, there goes another $2k

Howdy, getting back in the game. Just picked up an 18 XRC. Seller had a set of paddles that were unused. They're 32x13x15 sandcraft rippers with 12 paddles. Wasn't sure these were the way to go since I'm jumping from a rzr 900 that I sold 5 years ago to this, but after reading some it looks like these are a good set up for my rig...he sold them to me for $1000 and after some research looks like a pretty good price for brand new Skats. So my question is wheel size. I know some guys like to run narrow rims so at speed the tire narrows even more and gives more top end...right? But I'm more of a rip around, drift in 2 wheel drive duner so I don't care much about being fast in a straight line. So I'm thinking about 15x10's or 15x11's (depending on availability) in the rear. Kind of have it narrowed down to the DWT El Arco's or the Packards. I like the look of a more "low profile" wheel and tire combo so I'm hoping the wider wheels will stretch these out a little for that look. Let me remind you that I realize that the taller setup will probably perform a bit better, but I like what I like. :)

Any suggestions on my wheel setup is appreciated...and it won't be long before i'll be asking about a good tuning option!

After reading all 136 pages I finally decided to go with the 32x13x14 Skats Extremes for the Max. I did decided to go with straight 10 paddle even though I have a few different tunes.

The wheels I decided to go with are HD9 14x8 up Front and 14x10 in the rear as I didn't care for the skinnier look too much.

I should have them in 3-4 weeks then I will post some pics installed.

I was so disappointed how crappy the Bighorns did in the sand compared to the same car with no tune that had paddles. I had to pull the trigger on a sand setup.

Here are the weight of different wheels I was looking at in case anyone else wanted to know what they weigh. These numbers are directly from the manufacturer not my Walmart Scale..lol
14x8 HD9 is 15.8 lbs.
14x10 HD9 is 17.4 lbs.
14x7 HD10 wheel weighs 13.4 pounds per wheel. They do not make or plan on making a 14x10 in the HD10. STI confirmed that for me.
14x7 KMC XS234 Beadlock - 19.4 lbs
14x10 KMC XS234 Beadlock - 21.3 lbs
14x7 KMC XS128 - 18.4 lbs
14x10 KMC XS128 - 20.6 lbs

well boys, have we learned anything since this thread started?

do staggers have more or less bite when you launch?
do staggers have more or less bite once on top of sand?
are skinny or wide tires better for dunning?
are skinny or wide tires better for drag racing?
is 2wd or 4wd better for duning?
is 2wd or 4wd better for drag racing?
what is differance from extreme and ripper blades?
is a skat and an extreme tire carcass the same?

Moral of the story is Tim Kelly's Extreme Tire carcass is still the best and always will be the best.

Nobody has yet to make a sand tire that works as good as Tim Kelly Extreme Tire. He owns his tire molds and works closely with the manufacturer on the tolerances of the build quality. His carcasses (tire) does not start out as a heavy Farm implement tire like some others. That's a big deal when they are buffed down. You want a tire that's flexible and has side wall not some stiff hard tire.

I have a 2019 X3. It has Evolution stage 3R93, exhaust, intake. No extra weight. Do 400-500’ drag racing at Little Sahara.

I ordered the fastest straight line set up Tim and Kelly @ Xtreme tire could sell me.

They are 32x13x14 front and 32x13x14 rear, staggered 10 paddle. 16-17 psi front, 14-15psi rear. Douglas wheels. I believe they are Skat trak extremes but don’t quote me. Going from memory.

..... anyway - sound correct for a fast drag set-up?

thanks

So how are you liking those tires? Do you have to slow way down when cornering so you don’t blow the bead? (Sarcasm...).

I am really torn right now between the Sandcrafts and the Xtremes. Some non biased reviews between the two would be great.
You have a better chance of winning the lottery than this!

Thank you for the info. My riding is 90% Glamis and mostly to the south and by China Wall. We try to stay away from the crowded and rough areas. Whichever setup I go with I’m going to run an 8 front and 10 rear so I won’t be sporting the skinny’s.

A few of of the pics of the newer Xtremes that I have seen on the wider wheels are not skinny and look really floaty. I know the first one were skinny but it doesn’t seem like anyone posts pics of the 32x13s on wider wheels. *♂

What is the actually weights of the tires? DWTs are pretty light and machining out the centers will really lighten up the wheels. You have to weigh them on equal wheels to get a fair comparison. Either way both are light set ups.
