I know, here we go again!!!

So I was at st Anthony for 9 days last week, rained almost entire time again. I had (2) full sets of tires. 30/11/14 10 paddle extremes and Tom's (TIK in forum, he runs them on his X3 DS) full set 28" #2 STU paddles with 3 rib fronts

Extremes: throw sand like crazy, lots of wheel speed, the fronts even buffed do help in 4wd, very fast on top end, decent stability when dunning at high speed, 7" rims all corners, running 9 psi = conclusion, not enough tire for tuned machines, would be perfect on stock machine though

STU 28" #2 : more paddles helped launch harder, not throwing as much sand, more stable while dunning due to being wider, 4wd didn't seem much different, turned better, slower on top end, being shorter was noticeable as that extra ground clearance is needed when coming into dips fast not wanting to plow front end carrying momentum, 8 wide rims front, 10" rear, overall weight was close on fronts, rears were few lbs heavier each, running 9psi = conclusion, molded are less fragile in lave / rocky area, would prefer these in 30" if I was to buy, they dune better when running high speed due to width, would even consider a #1 paddle maybe?

If it's any hint of wet sand, stock 30" tires aired down do better then any paddle, I saw stock machines doing very well while it was slightly wet, as things dried out paddles had advantage

So now I am going to buy a set of 31.5" or 30"stagger rippers and run them on 8" front and back I think, there goes another $2k

sorry I run my extreme skats at 12 psi front and 14 rear they have 103 and 102 roll out. I don't notice much side wall flex the work awesome and I drive pretty damm hard to I feel they are a very fast tire View attachment 170817
That's what I have and they work awesome. Nothing better.

For me I think the skinny skat set up looks silly. Does it work? No clue as I will never run them. I have talked to others that have run them (not forum members) and they all say they are like being on ice skates in the dunes. Some did not like that feeling and others loved it.

What I have seen first hand is a 32" tall 10 paddle skat on a 10" wide wheel flat out hooked up and would go. They also throw a roost that sucks to follow in the dunes.

At the drags this past weekend myself, my friend with a Max with 10 paddle Sandcrafts and Mega raced some dude with skinny skats and tuned car. My little 30" CST set up got him at the start and by the end of the drags he was 1 1/2 car lengths ahead of me. He was not pulling away once we reached 75mph.

I would like to try the 10 paddle set up just to see how they dune.

Bottom line is there is no one set up that is the end all be all. Buy within your budget and go have fun.

Agree with all you say. At glamis and those large dune areas where you can run as wide as you want to dune cool. After 72 inches up here is a little sketchy in the tree's. Lol. I ran my XRS at 78" on CMS's wheel last year but there's no room for error in our dune trails. Atleast not what I like. This is why I went marrow along with more paddles in ripper this time. 10paddle ain't close to enough in my experience. 12 extreme is a good starting point. Just my .02

I love my 32" 10 paddle skat setup from Fullerton. I'm on 8" in the front and 10" in the rear for wheels. I feel the car is a lot more stable on that setup verse the skinny wheel setup, and mine runs dead even with another car setup about the same as mine running 31.5 extreme setup up our drag hill here in Utah.

The deal here is,

forum members, I’m sure would like to see some good “objective” talk about these tire choices.
This means, using mostly facts, And real observations, and experience, putting “feelings” and “personal biases”, and one way opinions and agendas aside!

Personal opinions are fine! And should be labeled as such. But someone who drives only one brand and one type of set up, and only drives “within” that particular tire and wheel set ups “limits”, is far from an expert to compare to other different tire and wheel set ups that they have no experience with?!

We have a few members here that use personal “subjective” talk in evaluations of the products they try and push to members as “best” set up, instead of fitting the correct tire and wheel set up to the drivers wants and needs and skill levels.

Im receiving an increasing number of calls and meeting up with customers that are not fully happy with the Sand tire and wheel sets purchased because the set up doesn’t match up good enough with their level of driving. They were given the “subjective” talk runaround instead of given all the truths, and instead letting the owner decide for themselves after given truthfull non biased info.

I've really been on the fence for the last few months on a wheel/tire set up. I ride %90 sand dunes (glamis, Gordon's well, and buttercup). Being that I only want to buy once I just haven't been confident in a clear choice. It's great to hear real feedback from consumers especially considering their driving style and where they dune.

Anyways... I for sure will run a skat set up but undecided on the new sandcraft tires or xtremes. I'm mostly a duner and not much of a hill shooter or drag runner. Im all about long flowy dune rides.

So I THINK I want to run a wider wheel set up, and for that I am looking at the Hiper Raptors, 8" fronts 10" rears. Matched up with either 31" or 32" 10 paddles ( leaning more towards the 32" for the ground clearance )... Really I just want enough roll out to not smack on the g outs, and all around solid dunning set up. I have a stock 17 xrs no tune no clutch work and don't plan on doing any... Thoughts and input appreciated.

so here are the choices on rims from what I have seen, back spacing is an entire other issue. I currently run 8f/8r and am 78" wide and I cant fit in front of my trailer with the 10's on my paddles as fenders are 79" and more importantly I want max RO so the 8" is the compromise this time around. I don't feel like I am sacrificing anything with this set-up. An 8" front is nice for a little more float and a little less plowing when cornering hard vs the ribbed fronts, but I have no problem pointing and going where I want or holding my line

7 front and rear

7 front 8 rear

7 front / 9 rear

8 front / 8 rear

8 front / 9 rear

8 front / 10 rear

8 front / 11 rear ( I had STU's on 11" not sure if they have them for can am)

I have (2) sets of rear 31.5's, both on 8" rims. (14) stagger ripper and (10) paddle extreme

What are you all running up front? I was going to get some 30x13-14 smoothies to match the 10 paddle 30x13-14's but apparently, skat trak is out and won't have more until the end of Feb. Was thinking 30 CST's Sand Blast fronts or the Pro armor sand fronts. Or do I hold out and run my stock big horns until next year?

Let's freshen this thread up.

Walker 14x6 with 100 r.o. rear/101 r.o. front warlock skats. 14pdl stag rippers. Been a while waiting for the walkers, like bought and paid for in August. Just came in tonight. Mine are 32 1/4 tall with 14lbs front 12lbs rear. compared to my 32x10x14 maxxis liberty's they are 1" taller. (Maxxis have weight on them obviously). And weight wise the whole set is 36.2 lbs heavier than my old 31" warlock skats on CMS wheels.

I went with the walkers because of backspace. 5.125 backspace helps keep me narrow. Plus I have 2 other sets and they are sexy. Never seen another set on anything in Oregon either. I like different. Walker had the black wheels but these shot peened were out and I was told they had a machining problem and scrapped a bunch. Who knows. Alot of time, thankfully it was our winter downtime

Read thru the entire thread and still don't know which sand tires I should go with! lol. I have a 17 XDS with the 18 Performance Kit with 172 hp.

I'm only going to be heading to the dunes maybe 1-2 times per year so don't need the best most expensive setup.

I do have Method beadlock 401's 14x7 with 5+2 in the front and 4+3 in the rear that I could use. I initially thought the wheels would be too narrow but see some experienced members run a 7 inch wheel. If I end up buying wheels I was leaning towards some non-beadlock DWT in a 4+4 front and 5+5 back.

What would be two recommended tire setups for my rig running in Oregon which does have some rocks and sticks?? I'm leaning towards a 30-31 inch tire.

Any recommendations and best places to order from would be appreciated.

On the Max cars we have been outfitting a few with 14 paddle stagger and the guys really like it. For when it's the sand has some moisture and it's heavy I run my 10 paddles.

Sandcraft has a 31x15x15 Skat and a 32x15x15. Which you can run a 15x10 or 15x11 rear wheel.

Mega picked up a set of the Sandcraft 32” and I think the tires were 100” rollout.

I want factory offset though and no one makes a reasonable priced non beadlock 6-1 15" wheel.
