I know, here we go again!!!

So I was at st Anthony for 9 days last week, rained almost entire time again. I had (2) full sets of tires. 30/11/14 10 paddle extremes and Tom's (TIK in forum, he runs them on his X3 DS) full set 28" #2 STU paddles with 3 rib fronts

Extremes: throw sand like crazy, lots of wheel speed, the fronts even buffed do help in 4wd, very fast on top end, decent stability when dunning at high speed, 7" rims all corners, running 9 psi = conclusion, not enough tire for tuned machines, would be perfect on stock machine though

STU 28" #2 : more paddles helped launch harder, not throwing as much sand, more stable while dunning due to being wider, 4wd didn't seem much different, turned better, slower on top end, being shorter was noticeable as that extra ground clearance is needed when coming into dips fast not wanting to plow front end carrying momentum, 8 wide rims front, 10" rear, overall weight was close on fronts, rears were few lbs heavier each, running 9psi = conclusion, molded are less fragile in lave / rocky area, would prefer these in 30" if I was to buy, they dune better when running high speed due to width, would even consider a #1 paddle maybe?

If it's any hint of wet sand, stock 30" tires aired down do better then any paddle, I saw stock machines doing very well while it was slightly wet, as things dried out paddles had advantage

So now I am going to buy a set of 31.5" or 30"stagger rippers and run them on 8" front and back I think, there goes another $2k

I forget what tune you running on yours? 8's are not good for launching, even worse launching into a hill for aggressive drags. Your top end and belt temps prob like them though

Has anybody posted results on stage 3 of either tune with (12) paddle stagger rippers? That may be the best all around option to cover multiple ride areas

I just mounted my 32 inch CST's.
I will report back after Thanksgiving when I play with the PSI. I am starting out at 5 PSI as they are only rated to 10 PSI max.

I would flip the front tires so those ribs are going the other way. I know the arrows have then that direction. Less resistance and you will still get pulling traction.

I thought the same but when I was at the SSSS the rep told me the ribs go forward. Maybe I should have a poll debating this.

The directions say to mount them like you have them. My friend runs them the opposite way and I mounted mine the opposite way. Mega has his like yours.

I have a STU set up and got the CSTs for a good price, so I figured I would try them out.

After this weekend I will let you know how they workout.

Chocking the rears paddles ! . I was not aware that the rear bolt pattern is rotated about 15 degrees different fron side to side. What would be the proper prossess chock the paddles ? . Im thinking I will have dismount one tire to line then up !
Thanks Bill

The only ones that will notice if my paddles are offset is the people I drive past!

Actually I had lined up valve stems when I put the set together. After looking at a photo it seems
that late night install was spot on lol

I ran my 32" CST tires for about 16 hours of dune time. I am very impressed with them overall.

I ran the front "backwards" and it worked out well. I was still able to slide some but the dunes were
really torn up and there are 3 big V8s and a couple of very high powered Subi's and they just leave huge trenches.
So power drifting was out of the question so I just found a groove and let the 4 wheel drive do its thing.
I had to run 6500 to 7000 rpm to attempt to keep up with them and I had to cut a few corners every run to keep up.
They were all amazed when we stopped for a break I was right there in line.... and a bit out of breath lol

My x-40 clutch , I made my first adjustment to it as I was reving to 8350 at sand mnt pulling hills with my paddles when I went from stage 3 17' to my new stage 4 18' tune so my rpms climbed to mutch.

Kris gave me some recommendations to get my rpms down so I took my secondary spring from position #4 to #6 and it lowered my rpm to 8150, tested this yesterday racing the drag hill at sand mnt nevada. My next ride will be dumont so I fear I will over rev big time so I may be swapping in my stock weights to add weight to my clutch because of the extra power

x-40 kit and stock dirt tires, stage 3 tune on dry lake bed in winnemucca at 4500', I was hitting rev limiter and couldn't go past 81mph with a new belt. In the dunes top speed I have seen is around 70+ so this doesn't bother me to lose top end with my clutching but I def have to make some more tweaks to get it perfect for the stage 4 tune.

pres day for sure. Will have a stage 4 pwr tune big paddle car along with mine so will see as we both have 18' updates. I have (2) sets of rears and some clutch tuning that I will take a day or so to dial in. Will 31.5 (14) paddle rippers be better on my car, or will the 31.5 (10) paddle extremes be better? I already know the rippers kill it at sand mnt on both race hills. I ran them at st Anthony when I was stage 3 but I had them aired down to low so only hid mid 40's on choke, hoping with more air in them and 25 more HP I can top hill at 50

Have to wait and see what the sand conditions are like when it gets closer. If the sand is very soft and dry like it was for Halloween and Thanksgiving your 10 paddle extremes will spin A LOT on launch. But by pres. Day I'm sure the sand will have some moisture in it so they may be your better bet up.

My last set of paddles I did the Kevlar inserts and it makes the blades stiffer. The idea is that you can run one less blade than you normally run since they don't flex back as much and now with one less blade you will have less drag and resistance in the sand so you can have more top speed. Yes they are also tougher and wear like iron.

Today I picked up a set of 30-11-14 Skat Extremes (8 paddle) and Buffs for my stock DS. Im interested to see how these handle in Glamis next week. Might be underpaddled a bit but we will see. Since I still need wheels I am leaning towards STI Hd4 5+2 offset, they are cheap, light, and beadlocks... sounds good to me :)

I bought 30-13-14 8 paddle extremes for my first set of sand tires. Also got the front buffs. They were not even close to being enough tire even with a stock tune. I sold them to a friend for his stock xp1k 4 seater. They work good for him. I went to 30 in cst and shaved off the nubs. I'm really liking them. The buffs, I also ditched due to lack of steering control. I went with the pro armour ribbed fronts. just my 2 cents....jack

Well that set up you have mentioned is available in either a 30" or a 31.5" tire. Either work well, I have used both. Difference is height (duh, LOL) , and price. Depends how much you want to spend, really.

Now with the Rollout numbers hitting 100 to 104" a 10 or 12 paddle works great. The X3 cars need a tall tire like 100" roll out for the suspension to work all the way. I tried to dune with my group on Big horns aired down and it sucked. They work fine in sand but they are way to short especially when aired down to 8 psi. X3 needs a 32" tire to keep from bottoming out and stuffing the nose.

it should, the taller tire may yield more top end mph due to RO, the smaller tire will also get you higher rpms. Another thing is our speedo is off by 4-5 MPH if you run the 31.5, guessing a little more if you run the 32's so if you base things of mph compared to a 30, you may want to get a gps or find a friend with the app on his phone to get readings both ways so you know. I pretty much could care less now about speed except dialing in shift out. I am mainly focused on getting my rpms tuned to my tire selection so that when pulling hills in 4wd I am 8200rpm, if I can maintain that everything else should be a non issue
