So I was at the dealership a few weeks back at a promotional event they had. Ask for the new BPR belt for the X3.... They gave me this belt.... 417 300 531, yet when I look at the Can Am Parts list it shows 417 300 391 as the new belt replacing the 422 280 651. So yesterday I go back to the dealership and state I need the new X3 belt ending in 391. They say I can use that belt, but the BRP rep told them that the 417 300 531 was the latest and greatest belt not only for the X3 but also for use in all of the G4 850 Etec snowmobiles.

Has anyone else heard this? Just want to make sure if I run this in my X3 that I will not have issues.

Happy Trails!

I don't see why it won't. Same motor / clutch set up, except for the fan and fuel pump upgrades.

Okay - Thanks guys. I see the 422 280 652 is the new belt for the X3 '18. Mine is a '17 but will be getting the upgrade kit. Not sure why they have so many part numbers.

I will be back to the dealership to get the 652 belt.

Has anyone heard of the 417 300 531 being the same belt as the 652 just for the Sleds?

I suspect that is the case. I read an article about the new sled that that part number is the new upgrade for, I bet its the same belt with a different part number to tell between sleds and sxs.

There is a HUGE thread on this already. But to recap, 531 is a SLED belt and should be used as such. Yes, it will technically fit. But Can-Am changed something with the 652 to make it side-by-side specific. Likely heat or use-specific changes.

I was told 531 is identical to the 652 can am # vs skidoo # is only difference. Our dealer has 80 of the 531 belts on the shelf for upcoming sledders.

I would be shocked if they're different. Can Am is notorious for having the same belt with different numbers. Tim

And they look and measure identical!!!!

That's 531 to 652 ? Tim

Yes, 531 on left. Only difference 531 says ski-doo and 652 says can-am. Can't speak to the rubber compound differences but dealer in Rexburg said they were same just part number different for each group. Will try the 652 and see how she does this weekend

I was relayed information from Can-Am that my local dealer should no longer sell the 531 belt to X3 owners as the 652 is specific to our car....

That's odd. The belt above is 422280652. The one I bought is 420280652.

And the BRP belt drama continues...

I ordered the 18' belt from my dealer yesterday and #42280652 is on the invoice. I just sent him an email asking what #420280652 is?
