Those are the ones that will likely be buying lower model X3's anyway. Where I ride (Glamis), performance is very important.

Than you and I have vastly different viewpoints on this,,, I ride Glamis exclusively. Many more Gucci cars than performance cars in the ISD IMO. Sure,,, many bolt on performance mods and such as well,,, but that's after they add 500 pounds of fluff,and $10k of pretty stuff to the car.

Not a terrible amount of cars running the sand that are lean and mean. Sure,, there are some guys out there that build a fast car that can rip, but I don't think that's the majority at all.

As for the cost of this new R,,, stupid IMO. I shyte my pants writing a check for $26K OTD for my 19 XRS with aftermarket wheels/BFG's. (and I got to keep the OEM wheel/tires) Car still makes me giggle. There's simply no way I would spend this much money on a toy. Could I,,, yes. Would I,,, Hell no. Would I have $30k more fun in a decked out R than I do in my current X3. Highly unlikely.

But that's me. I'm sure there will be plenty of them in the Sand this coming Oct. Good on ya to those that choose this route. It will be interesting to see how they run.

 

I too, ride Glamis almost exclusively, and while I agree that there are some "Gucci" cars in Glamis, I think the majority of them are probably a happy medium between bling and performance. No one in my group adds "fluff or pretty stuff", but we also are unlikely to be categorized as "lean and mean". One in our group is waiting for his Speed (cue the jokes here!), the rest have well thought out mods to increase performance and dependability within a reasonable level, and I think that's the majority of what I see in the ISDRA. I don't really see many with "500 pounds of fluff, and $10k of pretty stuff", although there will always be those on the extremes at both ends. After all, just look at the number of $200,000+ sand cars out there.

 

The farm use thing I can see biting ppl good down the road. I know ppl in Kansas that have there x3 as farm use and own no land because the dealers tell them how much they can save.

 

I’m not sure if something changed in MO but when I bought my ranger they asked if it was for farm use (it was) but when I bought the Mav Sport at a different dealer they didn’t even ask and no sales tax on either one.

That's because it is a HUGE market. Can Am already makes several machines that fill the role you're speaking to. This machine was intended to fill a single role,, and the market is very large for that single role. You really want a 240HP machine, with 25" of travel, that's 54" wide to run on 25 MPH trails? That's like being upset about Chevy coming out with a new Corvette, when you need a vehicle that can pull a trailer. I don't follow the logic. 🤷‍♂️

 

54" wide? that's too narrow for my fat arse lol.. 64-66" is perfect. our trails aren't super narrow, but if you get two 72" wide machines passing at the same section it can get dicey. 240hp is way too much for michigan trails in my own opinion but others will disagree.

 

I was told by a sales person in Kansas. Oh we sell them to ppl in kc all the time as farm use they don’t even question it. When I get to register mine they said farm use I said no. They had to figure out how to do it the other way.

Watching this video, the front arm when compared to the X3 arm, both have that similar bend in it. Maybe engineered into it to bend there first, IDK?

 

I wonder how those balljoints will hold up over time. A lot of leverage and movement going on.

 

They should see quite a bit reduction in applied force as opposed to them both being inside the rim.

 

it will be an awesome machine for its intended purpose- desert and dunes will be perfect for this machine. it wont be in WI, we are 65" max and the dnr is wise to changing stuff around and are starting to crack down on registrations that are wrong. it would be fun to test drive just to see what 240hp feels like. my 200 in my tuned 2019 is fun as it is. too much to drive safely on any trail but certainly fun on straight aways, etc.

I think its low-key kinda ugly, I was interested in upgrading but I think ill just buy a defender and customize that instead, it'll be my grocery getter or some shit

I frig'n love the Maverick R. I am looking at the R XRS with no mods as I will personalize it after the fact. I might wait a bit to see some reviews as well as put my arse in one to see how it feels but it's got features that I have been wanting.

I was looking at a 2023 X3 XRS Turbo RR and had planned on having FabWerx do their Baja Max cage with doors and nets. I think I am still leaning in that directing with the Maverick R-XRS.

I assume you cant remove the head without removing the engine because of the through bolts or whatever they are?

Here's the money shot. The scrub radius is excellent in this design. It looks to be well under 1".
There will be virtually no steering feedback felt at the steering wheel.

One negative that I see in this design is the length of the upper arm.
It is very close to being equal length with the lower arm, which means there will be almost no camber gain.
The "kingpin" axis appears to go through the middle of the CV, which is good.

In the patent drawing below, and the green line above, you can see how bad the scrub radius would be.
In order to achieve the same scrub radius with the red line above, it would miss the lower ball joint by a lot.
The red line would go through the CV boot, not the joint.
It had to be this way. Function over form.

Note the difference in the steering axis on the patent drawing and the production version, which is vertical.
