They don't have to be the same battery, but the same type of battery. You can't run an AGM type battery with say a lead cell battery. So you can't run an Optima yellowtop with a Everlast car battery on the same circuit.
if the batteries dont have the same charge/discharge rates one if the will fight eachother. When you connect batteries together they will equalize and all have the same power, the weakest battery will drag down the strongest.
Also when hooking up two batteries you need to use a battery isolator so the car will keep a main starting battery and when its fully charged send power to the secondary battery. This way you will always have a fully charged starting battery, we all know with the high compression of the Maverick you need all the juice to turn it over.
does the cca matter in a 12 volt battery?? what do you suggest in cca?? i have always just run stock battery and never modded any battery, but with the maverick i do plan to add things, light bar, radio,winch,etc/
will the system not keep charged a few accesories, if you buy a good battery? or is a dual with isolator best. if so what isolator you suggest and what cca value?? or better yet, do you have a battery part number?
i may do this, like i said i do a lot of things on sxs but never ever touched a battery, but feel i may need to. thanks
i fixed my issue today. i installed a larger battery and made a larger heat shield.

Question... Since the Battery is in the back do you have to run leads for acc. all the way there... Or did they integrate some sort of block upfront to get power from.... I am really curious about this...If I could just look at one I would Know but who know when that will happen
i ran a battery power wire from the battery to the dash and installed a 10 place fuse panel. I then pull all of my accessories off of that with 12v constant.
What if you run two batteries and hit the starter with 24V versus 12. We have been doing this with honda 450r fourwheelers for a long time. It may take a little creative wiring but believe me it will start the Mav right now.

I dont think you would be able to hook up 24v to this machine. You would have to make everything 24v to even be able to do this including the starter and charging system including the rectifier. Also i don't belive you could do this without frying the computer as sickstick said.
Pardon my french but WTF? Guess I better forget abou the new CVtech Clutch and STM Secondary....I need this battery...NOT! Whatever that is rediculous..

Yes, at 24 volts, you will melt down the ECM, and stator and rectifier system, and most likely go through several light bulbs pretty rapidly. The only way to do this would be to run an isolator with a solenoid that would enact 24 volts to the starter ONLY during cranking, and not communicate with any other parts of the electrical system.
I keep reading this thread. Mine turns over just fine. Hit the button about 2 sec to 3 and start. guess I'm just lucky or I don't understand how fast it should start
