I was wonder how the max would do in the mud. It seems like with its length the chassis/cab area would just get stuck in a high spot.

Probably, but I don't think there is enough data yet, with them being so new. I would hate to try and pull that monster out of a bad stuck situation, LOL!
You would not only want to invest in two pretty amazing winches for the front and back but also hope your buddies have monster winches as well.
The big problem i see with mud is the belly of these X3's are flat and once you get stuck in the mud its like a suction cup. You will need a tank to pull out an X3 maxx that was stuck in the mud. Oh and eff that mud it makes your sxs look like crap and beats the hell out of bearings and bushings. Ill stay with my dusty deserts.
