Maverick R's not leaving the dealership due to error codes

Wasn't sure if I wanted to post this on it's own but I need some help. If someone has experienced the problem and found a solution it can help the rest of us.

Issue: I tried to purchase the 2024 Maverick R at the first dealer within 200 miles that had one. I drove 4 hours to pick it up and the car was shooting a code, apparently related to the Fox Smart Shox. Fast forward 7 days, no fix so, I found another one local to me and signed the paperwork yesterday.

Today I go to pick it up and the same issue popped up. Again I am heading home with an empty trailer.

Question: Has anyone else had this issue when purchasing the new R, and if so was there a fix? This is the 2nd car that I know having the codes. The tech is researching it but coming up empty.

Now that I know this is not a one-off issue, I'm surprised there is no discussion on the web.

I have no love for the dealers in my area. I was straight forward with the 2nd dealer that I had already placed deposit and ran credit at another place but there was this issue. Asked him point blank if he had the same issue on his R. He said no. Now, after signing paperwork, it does. All they care about is that you buy the damned thing and deal with any issue after.

All the places I know of that have mavrick R have all been smart shock models. I don’t think I seen a non smart shock delivered.
Yeah, same. All triple black and smart shox. Darnit nohow
Disappointing, hope it’s nothing. Just goes to show any manufacturer can have issues. Went to my local Ride Now today, but they didn’t have any. Really wanted to check it out.
Yeah a bit of a bummer for sure. I have to keep myself in check because I wasn't really expecting one until Oct. I'm sure they want these out in the wild so hopefully a fix will come soon. My real only concern is that now that my signed docs have me tied into this VIN, if there is a major issue, I can't switch it for another car if it comes in..

Interestingly enough, there is another R at a dealer on the other side of town. They are building it today. If that was part of the same delivery, it too could have the same issue. I'll just sit here twiddling my thumbs and watch videos of everyone else enjoying theirs.

It’s probably just some type of glitch. IMO, you have to cut the dealership / techs some slack. The R is brand new, and nobody has seen it or worked on it. Should get better sooner.

Did you verify yourself or drive the second one around a little to check for a code before signing ?

I'm sure an update or TSB will be out soon if this is happening. They want these things out for dune season and camp RZR.

I did not drive it. Dealer said they didn't know of any problems last night when I signed and it was not ready for full delivery. He called at noon when I was pulling in to pick it up. Said he'd call again before end of business, which by my clock is 6 min ago. Of course they are closed tomorrow and Monday. Not gonna lie, I do like sitting in the garage staring at a new toy on my weekend off. I will make it that much better next weekend. My whips came in today too. maybe I'll connect them to 12v and drink that beer tonight anyway.

Look at it like the glass is half full, instead of half empty. I know if it were me, and I picked it up, and threw a code as soon as I got it home, or started it, or it wouldn’t start, I’d be saying some colorful words, LOL. They caught it, probably don’t have any answers yet. Sucks, but it happens.

Point taken Hollywood, and I am not complaining. Total luxury item here. Nice to be able to afford a hobby like this to begin with. And hell yes i would definitely turning that into a bitch session if I had loaded up, driven to Sand Mountain 4 hours away and found this out there. No harm done at this point, but yeah Burton - that 1st dealer had some time to figure this out. Maybe they were the first to notify Canam and put the fix in motion and now everyone is a week ahead?

I don’t see that happening with their new flagship model. Last thing BRP / Can Am wants is any type of bad publicity, even as small as a couple of cars. Bad thing as stated, it’s the weekend, and almost all dealers are closed on Monday. So in reality, this won’t get worked until Tuesday.

Service departments now days are a mess no follow up. My mom had her car at the dealer for two weeks. On Tuesday I get an email for customer service review on her car. I call ask if she got her car back she say no. She calls the dealer they say they don’t know why she got the email. But the person is gone and they will have him call. Next day she calls they tell her they will get back with her later. Thursday she stops at the dealer. The service department head says your car was done Tuesday I called and left you a msg. More than likely the issue more to do with the first dealer not can am.

Just got back from the Oregon dunes and there was a new mav R tearing the woop road up at 65 plus mph(he said) it definitely was cooking down the trails and looked like it handled them very well. It pulled up next to me at the bull run restrooms and we got to take a look at it up close and do a little talking with the owner. Great looking machine and a great week at the Oregon dunes.

I’m always suspicious of the dealers. When I was in high school I worked for a large truck dealership, I’ve worked for heavy equipment dealers, and of course I’ve dealt with many myself and even though you think after 4 decades I’d seem it all, think again.
The Can-Am dealership I buy from has a great salesman whom I would trust 100% in any situation and he is also in practice the “general manager” but their so called “service department” is an absolute abomination and the owner is a total flake.

Geez maybe you should order a Pro R………….

I wouldn’t doubt there may be a bad batch, it’s almost inevitable there will be some issues at some point in a brand new machine. It’s also possible some monkey at the dealers didn’t calibrate them properly. This isn’t uncommon with any vehicle no matter how expensive they are. I’ve seen a brand new $300k Lamborghini break down leaving the dealer. It’s not a bash on any product, issues happen. What matters is how quickly they fix it and correct it.
