Can someone explain to me how the clutch works in a maverick. I have searched and can't find a detailed explanation on how it actually works. I know nothing about the primary and secondary clutch..except for the fact that it has them.
The primary has a v shape to it at idle it does not touch the sides of the belt. The belt is lose on the primary . So as the secondary has a spring that is always pushing it together the belt will be at the outside edge of the secondary. As you raise the rpm's the primary closes and pinches the belt engaging it . Giving low end gearing as you give it more gas the primary closes farther and the secondary is forced open the ratio is changed . Giving more speed. Hope that helps.
Pull the covers off under drivers seat , KEEP EVERYTHING CLEAR, start the engine and you will see them run, increase the throttle a little and watch how they engage.
Everytime you run the machine you'll understand what's going on down there.
