Would the life of the ice be more if you didn't have it black? I went with grey for that reason. Just got it so I will test it out this year.

Lets see a pic of it mounted in your machine. I have my old set up that was in my Maverick and I hate it in my X3. Yeti cooler is too high and in my way to see behind me now.
