Box Canyon Saturday January 7th 9-930 AM.
Temperature says 49 degrees. Cold but should be ok. Hopefully safe of agitated land owners and plenty of different ground to cover.
Just 2 cars so far. Anybody who wants to come please do!

I have ridden there several times and I am quite familiar with the trail.
The spot on the map that they call the big ledge is also called the waterfall.
It drops down from north to south.

It has some large steps which cause some three wheel action.
If you don't like rock crawling you should avoid this route.
If you like or tolerate rock crawling it's no big deal.
I suggest that you take the bypass route and then take a look at the waterfall from the bottom.
It could be a good spectator spot depending on who is there doing what.

Due to recent rains the creek should have some water flow in the canyon bottom.
You will cross the narrow water channel many times.
The water may be only a few inches to 12" deep at most.
Sightseers will love the scenery in the box canyon.

The surrounding trails in the area tend to be rocky IMO.
Some of the trails east of the canyon are super rocky.

Would love it if you came. We have a 4 seat but always favor the rock climbs. Would love to "see" the waterfall mentioned.
ONX shows what appears to be a decent staging area. Would that be a good spot?

After looking at maps more the OHV staging area looks like another 10 or 11 miles down a dirt road - your first suggestion might be better.

I would suggest driving in further to the end of the pavement, and stage either here or here:

Good idea that saves alot of ground (33.174058, -111.203737) that'd be great. Im not nearly comfortable enough leading us to doom. Not so navigation saavy at times haha. We have a handheld R1 for 1 car (but needs to be dialed in? Works awful) and rugged radios in the car headsets. Won't be running a spare tire or winch on the car.

Technology is so cool Cut and pasted the coordinates into google maps and Bingo - shows exactly where you are talking about. I do not have a radio, but my son picked up some kind of a programable radio - might work. I have a winch, and winch out kit, spare tire, all Can Ams so should fit another car if needed. Wife having a fit that she never wants me to go ride alone - but does not want me meeting "strange" people out in the desert to ride How do you meet other riders then??

Right. Coordinates make it all make sense. Some people can just read the paper map that well.

Well if it makes her feel better it will be 4 of us me, My wife and 2 kiddos. And possibly another car with 2 adults and 2 older kids. As far as I know none of us are too strange haha.

Our family of 4 rides alone alot. So it's not too safe to get too deep into a trail. But with a group it's so much better. Safer.

But I'll plan to be there right around 10-1030 unless something changes. 👍

Shoot for 9-9:30 arrival, hit the trail at 10-10:30. That's just how it works.

Will it be all X3s or some slow vehicles? Cruisers may have trouble keeping up.
I run a fast pace on fast trails. Box Canyon is slower in the middle with fast areas at each end.

Definitely ok with fast pace. We have a full windshield and kids have full helmets so we dont mind the dust as much either. But we will be there 9 930 👍

If my car wasn't down right now I'd join you guys , have fun it's a great trail. You'll probably see a show at the waterfall with jeeps and such having a go at climbing it .

It's a great ride for sure.

Crown King has a good restaurant and the General store has some amazing fudge. Always a great time.
