Instrument Cluster fuse keeps blowing

Took the Maverick out this weekend and everything was fine until Saturday night when I started it up and the gauges went dark. When I turned it off it would not start back up. I checked and the 10a fuse for the instrument cluster was blown. Put a new one in a it started up but then the gauges went dark again. Turned it off and again it would not start up. Checked the same fuse and again it was blown. From then on out the second I would put a new fuse in a turn the key the fuse would blow. Now I know I have a short somewhere, but I figured I would pose the question here to hopefully save me hours of hunting it down. Anyone else ever have this issue?

Here is the power distribution (disregard the red box).

I would start with rear tail lights. Could be bad bulb shorting out to ground.

get a meter and check the +12vdc wire on one of your tail lights and see what your impedance (resistance) is to ground. It should either an open or above 1Kohm at a minimum. If you have a short, start tracing your wires back to the fuse box under the dash until you find the culprit.

Any luck with finding the problem? Do you have power steering and was that working with the blown fuse?

I was talking to a Friend yesterday about Motorcycles and some of the Shit customers do to them and finding shorts and such and he said they have some Bad Ass Electrical test gauges now that you touch the wire and it tells you whats up with each one. Pretty cool but spendy tool. Maybe one of your friends has a shop with one to help locate the problem.

Haven't seen nothing like that on the snap on truck. Will have to ask next week. I left my multimeter at work last night so I'm just trying to get lucky and find it today but no luck so far. Suppose to go ridding this weekend with a big group. I was climbing a hill last weekend when mine went out. No p/s and 32' tires was fun lol

I will ask about it.

it is under the drivers side dash next to the fuse box. It is used by the dealer for diagnostics...

The one my friends use is the Hook. Ultimate power probe.

Check the wiring for license plate light near the plate if you have one. Others have shorted from the heat generated back there off the exhaust.

good deal! You will need to replace the O2 sensor and you will fix the CEL....
