I have a two way radio and intercom setup in my Maverick Max and I get engine noise when I transmit and receive, I have tryed every thing I can thick of to fix the problem. moved the antena coax away from any other electrical( ran it down the left side ) Power and ground direct from the battery, Noise filter from Rugged ran the power and ground away from any other electrical (down the right side). Its crystal clear with the engine off. Any suggestion???

I called Rugged and they had no answers, I dont have any cords coiled. I looked at PCIs web site they say not to use the ground wire on the intercom because it is grounded through the connection to the radio, (ground loop what ever that means) that didn't help.

I would disconnect the cabling from the intercom and listen to the audio from the speaker built in to the radio and see if the noise goes away. That will help pinpoint if the noise is being picked up by radio or by the intercom. You said you are getting engine noise when transmitting and receiving - are you saying people are hearing the noise in your transmissions?

Is this a new system or old system that worked good before and has developed problems? What comm and radio are you using. Where did you mount the radio itself as well as the PTT buttons. Try unmounting some things like radio and PTT buttons and set in in the seat to test them. You can pick up noise in strange ways so nothing is to weird to try.

Start your engine in the dark and look at your plug wires and look for small blue leaking spark .
Had the same thing happen on a sled that was destroying two-way communication .
And is there any chance that someone put non Resister plugs in it ?

Okay so just going through the steps:
You already have the power cables for both the intercom and radio ran directly to the battery
You have the radio and intercom cables separated
And you already have the noise filter installed

Let's try this. As mentioned before, disconnect the jumper from radio and use the hand mic to transmit. If this eliminates the engine noise while transmitting, then it's the intercom causing issues. If the problem persists, it's the radio system. Let us know the results of this and we'll go from there. Don't worry, we'll track this issue down so you can get the most of your equipment.

Wow, I have alot of options to try. This system was installed last December and has never work right. It is a Rugged system with a vertex radio. it is mounted in the dash to the right of the steering wheel. 2 PTT velcro one on the shifter one on the passenger grab bar. Has factory spark plugs but i will check them as well as a bad wire.

Thanks for the help I will start eliminating all the options you have suggested and will post my findings

Do you get same noise regardless of passenger or driver talking?

So I had time today to work on it, I completely tore it apart , disconnected the radio from the intercom and hooked up the mic it was crystal clear motor running or not. So that means it's in the intercom. disconnected the the cables to the head sets one by one no change still had motor noise with the motor running. It has resistor spark plugs and no spark jumping from the wires. I am at a loss of what else I can do.

Alright, so when you disconnected the jumper cable from the radio, the radio worked fine. Was the intercom also clear (free of static)?
If the intercom and radio are both working fine when they are not connected to each other, than it's more than likely the jumper. If that is the case, we would have no problem getting you a replacement jumper, you would just need to send us the defective one. Let me know if that's for sure the case and we'll get that goin for ya

Sounds to me like a bad jumper. I can't be 100% positive that's what it is without looking at it, but there's hope. We're going to send you a replacement jumper cable along with a return label. Try out the new jumper, see if it works, if it does, send us back the old one. If it does not work, send back the new one and we'll have to continue troubleshooting from there. Pm coming your way shortly.
