Not really, you need to come in from the bottom. Just make sure you get the hose FULLY seated and align the clamps for easy access. Take some pics before you start.

Might be easier to just take the hose of the compressor outlet and leave it on the intercooler. So you would only really need to do one side from under.

Also don't forget about the plug for the intercooler fan

I recommend pulling the muffler and changing them from the rear. I'm not a fan of disconnecting the intercooler hoses so I just removed the bolts and lifted it up a couple inches to provide the necessary clearance as there is plenty of flex in the hose.

Have you actually pulled the intercooler before?

Pulling the intercooler sounds/looks/seems hard, but it’s actually really really easy. Two hose clamps, 4 bolts and unplug the fan. I’ve done it over a dozen times, it goes pretty fast. Then the plugs are supper easy. Just remember to install the boost hose clamps with caution and tight. They are prone to leaking boost and causing loss of power If not tightened tight. I like to do a pressure test after installing them (KWI boost gauge) more then once I thought it was good and it was leaking boost And needed a little more tightening. I lost a race once, went home and realized I had multiple leaks in those hoses 😂 I should have won that race.

I may have made it sound harder then it is, I just wanted to convey the importance of getting the hoses on properly Or it could loose boost pressure, after all that’s what is so badass about these buggys, the turbo.
You can’t be afraid (DEFINITION OF AFRAID-feminine-in-nature/anti-male) to pull a boost hose now and then if you are going to do your own maintenance on these things, although you could break a nail. It’s just a F-en hose clamp for crying out loud! These x3’s are by far the easiest things I’ve ever worked on. They come apart and go back together like a lego set. The hardest thing is cleaning it if it’s dirty or grimy. I don’t understand why it’s so easy, I guess it’s not loaded down with unnecessary shit. You take a part off, put a part on and it works every time. Other then little stuff like steering alignment, check motor/trans alignment tolerance, or building the engine it requires no brain cells, even grandma could do it.

I changed my plugs today. I accessed them by removing the intercooler. I didn’t want to disconnect the hoses, I was hoping to pull up and push the intercooler out of the way as much as I could. Well.. that wasn’t working out very good for me so I disconnected the hose on the turbo and that sumbitch was loose. All my clamps were loose. Now I’m glad I did cause I got me some git up and go now..
these plugs have 8500 miles on them.
I used this hose to fish out and start threading the plugs…
