Has anyone started a thread on running bigger tires for the X3? What fits? What works? What needs to be done? Clutch job? Lift? I couldn't get the search function to work. I'd like to run bigger tires on a DS.

I would look at the sector zero. The least amount of offset the better. Also get the lightest wheel you can get .

KMC makes some 15x6 wheels for the X3. If you want a 7” wide wheel a 5+2 offset on the 64” wide model will be fine

aztec1382, so the link I sent is for Method 401r 15x7 4+3 Offset. I will also be sending this to a shop for the clutch adjustments etc. and I have a few months before pulling the trigger. Just wanted to post this as I know I'm not the only guy on here with a 64" X3 that wants to go to a larger/ more durable tire. Either way though I appreciate the help and will post pics once they are on.

Thats a 401
Any wheel with a 4/3 offset should give you enough space between the rear trailing arm
To run a 32 or 33 inch tire

The 401r is a lighter race wheel, but will not work for you because the offset is really close to stock
So you’re tires will rub on a 64 inch model

Ok I’ve had it with not many choices. I’m strongly considering going with a 17” omf wheel and a truck tire despite the weight. I watched the jeep crowd think 33” tires were huge, over time 35’s were the norm and now you can’t buy a sticky smaller than 37”. Even that is a minority now. What also happened along with that was the wheel size jumped up to 17’s. Call me crazy. Call me a dumbass. Whatever.

I prefer visionary. Let’s blow some parts to hell and see if anyone follows and builds what I need to hold this pile together.

Why? It has the same footprint as a Cherokee with better suspension and better power to weight ratio. Why does everyone think it can’t handle over 60#’s. How many have tried? Most failures are due to not knowing how to drive. You must understand the rig and what it does before it does it.

32” tires are tiny. Maybe not on a rzr. But the foot print of a 72” x3 is begging for 35’s or 37’s. So why not give them to it. Are there weak links. Yes. Where and why?

How many people have experience with bigger, heavier tires? From what I see most are content with 32’s or smaller. With exception to the mud guys. But their component stress is just in a different way.

So maybe someone needs to breakout and break some stuff. Maybe I’m a Maverick. Lol.

Maybe I’ll have to build the X4 to find out if it’s possible. Maybe I just need a little encouragement to do it instead of the “I read on the Internet it would be bad”.

35s would be the biggest I would go. There are many running a 35" tire on the X3. IThe powering steering is not great on the X3 RS and adding big tires compounds the issue when you get into the technical stuff. Expect to upgrade your power steering unit when you throw the big tires on there.

Perhaps look at the options in a 33" tire. CST makes a rock crawler tire called the Lobo RC in a 33". It fits on a 15" wheel. I believe the BFG UTV 32" tire on a 5" wide wheel measures closer to 33".

You will quickly find out on most trails the X3 will out perform a Jeep and go up the same trail as a Jeep much faster.

It was a bad idea before the internet was invented by Al Gore.
Do a little research on rotational inertia.

Yes, you can be a Maverick and bolt on 37" Boggers. Tell us how it goes.
If you don't twist off your axles or break other components, I guarantee you will lose acceleration and greatly reduce braking power.
You will increase breaking power and decrease braking power at the same time. :big smile:

PS: I just rode 400 miles in the Colorado Rockies at high altitude. I blew by about 100 Heeps on my tiny 32" tires.
It's not just about tire size. If it was, dirt bikes would be on 40's by now.

I understand rotational forces. But I’m not trailing at 60, 50, 40, or even 30 mph going uphill killing nasty hills don’t need brakes.

But here again you poo poo it but have no experience in it. I’m not dumb enough to run boggers. It’s design lends itself well to carnage.

Makes me think of Viagra in Disney Ok 15 years ago. Nearly impossible then. Guys in rzr’s are climbing it now. I was there when the cat from Dodge City climbed Cialis about 8 years ago for the first time. Thought to be impossible then. Lots of people climbing it now.

So what if people think it’s a bad idea. Do they know? Probably not. Very little experience in this realm. I personally am looking for experience.

You’re on 32’s. What have you broke because of them? I’m looking for insight to determine how to undertake this adventure. Not theoretical maybes.

Math is math. Real world is reality.

32s will be fine on a light wheel
Did not break anything 1,600 miles of desert

Running 35s now with the lightest wheel out there
Method 401r

We will see if anything starts to go
I am running a halo and rcv axles up front
Might have to upgrade the rears, but hoping i dont

I already had the upgrades before running 35s

Also running eibach sway bars
Hk outdoors sway bar links
Shock therapy full suspension tune and tie rods
Sand craft carrier bearing
Zrp radius rods
Ct gusset kit with shock tower

Soon im Going to upgrade the power to 2018 spec

Nice looking machines in this thread! Is anybody running the 34x10x15 STI Roctanes?

#269 ·
I haven’t been able to find anybody running the 34” Roctanes. I used to run them in 32x14s before I went with the BFGs and I prefer the Roctanes over the BFGs for the slow rocky type riding we do. I just got a set of the 34s mounted up last night. They look pretty good I think. Definitely heavy. You would not want these tires for anything but low stress low speed riding, in my opinion. Only reason I went with them is because I love their grip and I need all the ground clearance I can get.

Thanks. Just got back from Disney, OK. The tires worked great, plenty of grip and decent ground clearance. I was able to go all the way up “stair step” there, Pretty gnarly climb. Got a little bit throttle happy at the top though, front differential is toast. Came apart as soon as I put the boost to it. Time for something better there, with locking capabilities. The tires definitely stress the drivetrain, but if you can keep your foot in check and know your limits, they’re an awesome setup. I’m generally not a heavy footed guy. It just happened I guess.
