Has anyone started a thread on running bigger tires for the X3? What fits? What works? What needs to be done? Clutch job? Lift? I couldn't get the search function to work. I'd like to run bigger tires on a DS.

There are a couple of threads on brakes with big brake kit vendors mentioned. Your in the $3-4k range which is out of reach for most. Only affordable option looks to be the Streamline rotors combined with Galfer brake pads. Probably nothing close to a big brake kit but still an improvement.

I believe that you can get bigger rotors from them that come with longer caliper adapters to match. Its about 250 bucks or so per pair. Putting larger diameter rotors on the car would probably be the best way to increase stopping power on a budget.

I have searched every where I can think of and can't find an answer. Which compound are the desert guys running with the 32" Tensor ds. I have been running the 32-10-14 Mongreal on both my x3 and my sons xp 1000 pretty much with no complaints. Time for some new tires and if I were to switch this would be the tire. Less weight is biggest reason we're thinking of switching. Zambo fill in the blank please hard or soft.

The Tensor DS is a great tire, just be aware that an aggressive driver will smoke a set of rears in as little as 500 miles, especially if driving in 2WD (and that is with the hard compound). I don't think anything beats this tire for pure hard desert performance, but it can get expensive if you log lots of miles.

Never tried the soft compound. I run the hard compound to get more miles out of them. It’s still pretty soft. If I had a big race budget or sponsorship to change tires every 500 miles I’d try the soft compound.

Hey everyone, I did not read through all the pages on the thread, so I don't know if someone mentioned it, but there is a great article done by UTV Sports Magazine (online) of 32" tires. There is a good write up on each one to explain how each handled in their test and gives a good report to give you a better idea if a tire is right for you. Certainly not an exhaustive list, but a pretty good start.

Check it out, you will have to go to their back issues and look up July and August of 2018. Here is the URL to get you to the right spot:

Hope that helps someone!

I've read through this thread and the primary reason it looks like most users upgraded overall tire height is for ground clearance and aesthetics. Which, for those with 30's switching to 32's it would only effectively be 1" of lift. I don't think this has been addressed yet in this thread:

1) Have users experienced noticeable engine speed reduction at cruising speeds (say 40-50mph) when going with a larger tire height? I estimate going from 30"-32" at 50mph this may only be ~400-450 RPM using some online calculators. This may be negligible as cruising at 50mph w/ 30" tires I'm at about 5800 RPM, so only about an 7-8% engine speed reduction and this doesn't factor in clutching. I ask as I spend a lot of road time (40-50 MPH) going trail to trail or around town.

2) Does a clutch kit assist with above? I.E. would this bump down engine speed for a given wheel speed or is it the opposite?

3) From searching, BUDS can be used to recal the speedometer for larger tire size. Do any of the popular tune programmers available offer speedometer recal (EVO, Vivid, etc.)? I haven't seen this listed on any of their sites. This is a common feature w/ gas and diesel automotive programmers. if the stealer is going to charge you a few hours to recal your speedometer you are most of the $ towards buying a tune with a programmer.

Ok so I've looked at every single page of this thread and I'm probably even more confused about what tire to get...lol. I will primarily ride in WV, VA, and TN which means mud, mud, and more mud. I have a Maverick X3 Max. Want to use stock rims for now so wanna stay either 30 or 32. Anyone have any advice on good mud tires that don't look round like the stock tires?

32" Tensor Regulator's on my DS

Well after watching this tread for a few months I bought 5 Alba Racing Rock Crusher 15x7 billet beadlocks with a 5+2 offset and 32x10x15 Tensor Regulators for my DS. Greased up the bearings while I was at it. Anxious to get it out for a ride!

looks like i will probably be picking up a 2019 xds R at some point in the next few weeks :)

planning on going to a 30x10x14 x comp sti, hoping to use the stock rims this time since they are already bead locks.

#1 will they fit without rubbing on the 64" on the stock wheels? mainly the rear arms, since it looks pretty tight back there. They shouldnt be any wider than the big horns but the height difference may cause issues.

#2 will i have to reclutch to go up to 30" with more weight than the big horns?

I will probably milk out the big horns for the summer but idk... i just dont care for the performance of them that much.

Thanks,
Steve

awesome thanks for the pics and info, i will have to get a set and put on it this summer. I like the tires so far, i put a set on my XMR for a few hundred miles but they will be going with the machine on Friday now that my xmr sold last night. i kept the tires in the deal to help it sell instead of only selling it with the silverbacks on it.

I just picked up a 2019 64" XMR. Looking at new wheels and tires. I found a deal on 32" Carnivores for $680 for 5 and 33" XT300s for $1000 (again 5). Debating between the two. Will the 33s fit? Anyone have a suggestion? Mostly this thing will be trail riding and rock crawling on the east coast. Lost of slick rock, loose dirt and some mud. Some time on hard surfaces and dirt roads getting to and from trails.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Carnivores because of the price, the seem proven, look like they'll ride better, assuming easier fitment and less chance of having to mess with the clutching.
