Im new to posting on here but have been reading since i bought my xds turbo in march. Mine has started very slowly since new like most people. My bike currently has only 104 miles on it, only been in trails twice. We mainly use it to pull racecar at track. Well yesterday i went out with friends in trails/mud and now the starting is terrible. We all took about a 5min break after about 30min of hard riding, go to start it and cranks slower then ever and wont start. Let it cool for 20min and it barely started. Ride back to camp and turn off, try to start again with it hot, barely cranks. 30min later it starts. Go riding again and turn it off and it wouldnt start even an hr later. Jumping doesnt help and jump box did nothing. Even tried another guys battery and no different. My lights are plenty bright so i dont think its a voltage thing. This is bs to pay 23k for this machine and it wont even start. Taking it to dealer tomorrow, not sure how they will be about it. Any thoughts?

I don't know about "bomb" starting but we have only done it once. He left his lights on alittle to long one night and the battery went dead so we hooked a strap to it and in high gear and it fired right up. Now I always carry jumper cables. But it did work easy from the hold back that the can ams have.

I have had my turbo for coming up on 1.5 years. The "slow start" thing is a non issue. A slight starter drag for 1 second as it begins to drag has been made into some "problem" that needs "fixing" .....why ?

When the unit doesn't crank over and leaves someone stranded is a completely different issue than the "slow crank"for a second which most of the XDS rigs seem to have.

I have not even considered this to be any issue I need to have "fixed"

To me all the " solutions" are pointless as the machine starts. I think a mole hill has been made into a mountain.

These are my feelings also Tim....it isn't a maintenance issue and not broke, so no need to fix it until it breaks completely.

However, the anal engineering portion of me needs to at least find out why, overnight, 95% of T cars did this when 95% of non-T cars didn't. When that is discovered and proven, then steps can be taken to remedy.

well i spoke to my dealer on friday.. he told me can am called him and said my new style starter was headed his way...what this means , i dont know. he didnt know if there was a difference of if can am is just trying to put me off ...we will know something soon i hope..

this is supposed to be a different starter all together. i kinda wonder if it will be any different or will i just be getting a new starter that is the same.

if I remember correctly, when the maverick first came out in late 12. BRP was replacing them with a different starter. One had a shinny case cover than the other. Mine was replaced with no change at all. been starting slow since day one with no issues. I even added a full-size AGM battery too.

mine has done it from day one...i have only got 60 miles on mine and will not shut it off on a ride unless i know we will be stopped for at least 20 min.

mine left me stranded in the front yard with 6.1 hours on it ..had to get a jump box to get it going. im trying to get a vid up but my computer is acting stupid

That clearly is not the same issue. That's a dead battery.

I can state that like mega said on his non turbo, Even after a large automotive battery was installed mine still has a drag. The drag is not caused by low battery voltage.

You can't say a dead battery is the same issue, if you jump started it then the battery was drained.

i will find out what the part # is and see what the difference is ...my dealer is super cool and hates that can am hasn't stepped up and fixed the problem ...they know there is a problem ..what ever the problem is ..

I know that the wiring IS NOT the problem on my XDS turbo. I ran another 8mm cable (in addition to the standard one) to the starter from the solenoid, and from the solenoid to the battery.
Did not make any difference whatever. Still a bastard to start when hot.
I think it has to be either something in the cam or ignition timing.
One thing that I do know.. is that I invented a dozen new swearwords trying to get access to the solenoid.

my unit has never spent a nite away from home....they take care of me ...i take it in and they get done what is needed and back out the same day.....they did all the trouble shooting that can am wanted and back out the same day.....it probably helps that i have sold about 20 units for them in the last 6 months.

I'm racing this weekend and I believe it's a dead engine race start. My XDS slow starting has me losing sleep :(
