23’ turbo RR personal build overkill eventually

What’s up guys. After years and years of building everyone else’s prerunners and crawlers and never quite having the time due to customer builds to build something of my own I finally (I held out for a long time from these golf carts) bit the bullet and decided I need my own toy to enjoy so that when I do build my own silverado and Baja bug I’m not out of the fun of actually going out and playing in the desert!
I was really impressed with the out of the box base model and the shitty shocks I can’t do any fine tuning on, but they work pretty good for now.

I will also be using this car as product development so the things you see me build on here may become something I sell eventually. When the time comes I will figure out the vendor situation on here, but for now this is a way for me to keep track of my prototype work.
I have a background in off-road for basically all my life. I was a welder for 6 years to put myself through college. Now I’m a mechanical engineer at my day job and still building rad off-road stuff at night because I love it. Plan to eventually turn this into a full time gig, probably could at this point but I’m not ready for that leap. One day!
Anyways let’s get onto my build. First thing up was junking those stock seat belts and getting some 5-point harnesses I had laying around in the garage installed. I built a nice little bolt in bracket underneath the seat to bolt the anti-sub belt to. After that I got my GG rock lights installed, GG whip, an unknown light bar mounted up, and some lower doors from a buddy who got full doors. I know I am going to build a trunk of some sort to get some more storage for the long rides so I had to get rid of that god awful exhaust system and shed some weight! So I built a Race style exhaust all stainless steel tig welded (purged properly), this may become my first product but there is some changes I want to make first, I’ll prototype the 2nd one on my buddies 20’ xrs.

these small mods are my first step, I am working on getting all the 3d files for the car so I can really get some parts designed. This summer will see a complete chassis stiffening, cage, bumpers, tires, wheels, and a rear trunk area that looks good and gives me tons of storage.

I was able to finish up my front double shear plate. It will bolt in with 6 3/8 bolts. I used 1/4 for mock-up as that’s what I had laying around so I will drill them out once I tear down the car again. I got the radiator bolted in on the stock bumper for now so I can get get the top radiator mounts built. Will finish up mock up today getting the plastics in place as well so the top mounts are exactly where they need to be. Fan clears my x brace no problem and the mounts shouldn’t be too far off of it so overall I am pretty happy with that, I may cut the plastic off shorter and mount lower on it I haven’t decided yet. If all goes well I will be done with fabrication tonight and get it torn down for some paint tmmrw and final assembly Thursday. I’m tired lol

NICE! You were right, plenty of room for that fan.

Well I ended up with the fan realllly close after getting all the plastics bolted up and everything tightened down I pulled the radiator forward slightly to space it off the x and whipped up a nice tab for it! Man it felt good to see the car all back together and not smashed up anymore! Did not want to take it back apart for paint tmmrw night lol. The tab is 3/16 I wanted it strong but it also has the ability to bend if it needs to. Not sure if it will bend easy enough to stop any radiator damage this time but time will tell?
Also I found out my eBay radiator moved the lower inlet further down than stock so I am going to cut the tube and throw in a 3-4” aluminum or stainless steel tube extender until I can figure out a better solution. I’m assuming they moved the inlet for better flow or this thing truly is a 2 row radiator like it advertised so they needed to move it down to maximize the bottom section? Either way I’m just hoping to fire this thing up by Friday for a little test drive in hopes of a trouble free Saturday ride!

Well guys I totally forgot to take some pictures of painted parts as I got halfway through assembly I realized. WHAT A PAIN THE ASS to assemble the front end of these cars. Getting the bolts to work sucked too. I also forgot to take a picture of my front LCA nut plate I used. I ended up cutting some 1/4 stainless steel at work that would encase a hex nut, welded that to the stock nut plate and boom perfect placement on the nut plate without having to make a whole new one. Saved me a bunch of time. Arms are on, upper shocks in, bumper and top of radiator bolted up. I am a bit concerned about the radiator hose as I don’t remember it being as close to the UCA as it is now? Maybe somebody can chime in on that or show me what theirs looks like. If not I’ll check it out on my buddy’s car tmmrw when I take this thing out for an all day shakedown!
