23’ turbo RR personal build overkill eventually

What’s up guys. After years and years of building everyone else’s prerunners and crawlers and never quite having the time due to customer builds to build something of my own I finally (I held out for a long time from these golf carts) bit the bullet and decided I need my own toy to enjoy so that when I do build my own silverado and Baja bug I’m not out of the fun of actually going out and playing in the desert!
I was really impressed with the out of the box base model and the shitty shocks I can’t do any fine tuning on, but they work pretty good for now.

I will also be using this car as product development so the things you see me build on here may become something I sell eventually. When the time comes I will figure out the vendor situation on here, but for now this is a way for me to keep track of my prototype work.
I have a background in off-road for basically all my life. I was a welder for 6 years to put myself through college. Now I’m a mechanical engineer at my day job and still building rad off-road stuff at night because I love it. Plan to eventually turn this into a full time gig, probably could at this point but I’m not ready for that leap. One day!
Anyways let’s get onto my build. First thing up was junking those stock seat belts and getting some 5-point harnesses I had laying around in the garage installed. I built a nice little bolt in bracket underneath the seat to bolt the anti-sub belt to. After that I got my GG rock lights installed, GG whip, an unknown light bar mounted up, and some lower doors from a buddy who got full doors. I know I am going to build a trunk of some sort to get some more storage for the long rides so I had to get rid of that god awful exhaust system and shed some weight! So I built a Race style exhaust all stainless steel tig welded (purged properly), this may become my first product but there is some changes I want to make first, I’ll prototype the 2nd one on my buddies 20’ xrs.

these small mods are my first step, I am working on getting all the 3d files for the car so I can really get some parts designed. This summer will see a complete chassis stiffening, cage, bumpers, tires, wheels, and a rear trunk area that looks good and gives me tons of storage.

Oh forgot to mention I threw in those tusk seat heaters as well. They work extremely well! Turn them down typically even on a 25 degree night in the desert. Check out my buddies little tip over on a night ride lol

Now onto some exhaust pictures. My little brother handles all the tig welding around here I handled all of the fabwork as far as cutting the tubes and getting them setup exactly how I want., I handle all the mig stuff typically. We both stack dimes just with different processes. oh and I managaed to use the stock spark arrestor screen, sandwiched it between the muffler and the exhaust tubing and then welded it up. Hopefully keeps the forestry service happy out here in the wonderful state of CA

Looks like you do some nice quality work!
Where did you find the Tusk seat heaters? Everywhere I have found says out of inventory.

I was shopping around rockymountainatvmc for some dirtbike parts and came across it there. Arrived with a switch that the LED wasn't working on and they sent me a replacement within a few days. They also sell replacement switches in case they ever go bad.

Nice welding! I'd be interested in that exhaust, if you decide to produce. Looks like it would be quite loud, though.

It is definitely loud. I tried to keep it quiet since I do have a ton of slower mountain trails near me but I failed at that haha. If/when I sell them I will come up with a quieter muffler for those that don't want it as loud. I'll be in the desert next week so I will get a sound clip of it.

Welcome from Oregon

Sounds like you are in your element! These are great platforms to work with.
Handled my first oil change, a bit late at 360 miles but all is good. I bought one of those funnels off Amazon, didn’t quite work other than fitting the hole in my skid good. Needed to be about 2” taller on one side to really catch the oil. Guess I’ll get one of those bendable funnels to use with it and it will be much better. Lots of
Oil on the skid haha

Plenty of input here regarding the Curtis Oil Drain product and proper filter purging method for X3s. The members are giving it a 5 star rating.
