2022 XRS clutch whine at idle

5908 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  HPnMORE4J
Hello everyone, I have a 2022 XRS and it has developed a loud whine at idle in the primary clutch. My dealer says run it and I am not comfortable with that answer. Has anyone had this problem and what is the fix. I have suspicions its the hub bearing.I was going to include a 15 sec video but not sure how to add

Welcome from Tucson AZ. You first have to add the video to YouTube, then take it off of there. I would find a new dealership also.

Pull your clutch cover and see if it gets louder. If so, I bet your primary clutch bearing is dry and needs grease. I've heard they have little or no grease from the factory.
You ever figure this out? I've got a 21 XRS but added a Pdrive recently. It test revved fine but I had to pull the secondary again to add another washer to align the clutches and now I'm getting some whine. KWI Kris said its coming from the gearbox and also said to run it and not worry about it, but there's nothing to screw up installing the secondary so I can't figure out why its whining now. Car hardly even has any hours on it

I'll add a video if anyone knows what format is supported. It doesn't like MP4s and didn't find any site help info

If it didn't do it before installing the washer then I'm not sure about the gearbox. I think it would somewhat easy to pinpoint if it's either clutch or gear box.
Also make sure to replace the rear secondary bolt, especially if you reinstalled the same twice as they stretch and sometimes to this....

The whine is at idle or running? You have p drive x from kwi and float mod?
Yes, floated Pdrive and secondary. It seems like its coming from the belt but the clutches are now in alignment. No whine at all when I first installed. Also seems like the belt sits higher on the secondary now than when I 1st installed and I don't see it actuating when revving in park, but KWI insists it all looks normal. I'll try reinstalling it again after this business trip. The bolt isn't torque to yield but I'll try replacing it. The torque wrench slipped off and marred the head a tiny bit but its bothering me now anyway lol

Not real familiar with the PDrive but doubtful the primary is "floating". The belt position on the secondary shouldn't change and also didn't realize they changed from using a torque to yeild bolt as they've done in the past. Maybe others can chime in on this. Maybe you should go out a run it a bit to see.
Well, allow me to reiterate. I didn't think it was tty but car is also still pretty new. All good, I'll swap it

the point of a floating secondary is... it moves in and out freely,
wile being bolted firmly to the transmission shaft.

I have pdrive from Kwi with no float secondary ,and i tored apart before installing cause i have trust issues, the primary bearing comes almost dry. I greased out and put 600 miles no issues, tored apart to see how is doing cleaned re-greased again. If the noise is only at idle i will say is the bearing. You wasnt having the noise cause your secondary wasn't aligned and secondary was rotating so primary bearing wasnt working, now that is aligned the dry primary bearing is doing its job, thats my guess

I was trying to be nice......:p 🤠
PdriveX float mod plus secondary float. KWI calls cleaning up the sheaths a float. I don't get what the problem is
The pdrive clutch weights can cause this. I have seen canam has release some new weights to fix the problem as it’s the weight profile that keeps it from fully disengaging. I talked to Kwi about this and bought his AO-P1 pdrive weight kit and it completely fixed my problem. I put a pdrive on my 2017.

I believe his pdrive is from kwi.

Truing the sheaves has nothing to do with float.
It is, thanks. Yes, the KWI PdriveX comes with pre-weighted AO-P1 to my general riding style/setup

I was just going off what they told me, so appreciate the realworld correction. Inexperienced but thankfully not stupid, so I absolutely appreciate the support from experienced folks on this site! Gotta start somewhere, and I'm not bailing anytime soon
