OK - now after 1 year I have to ask the following: What is the technical AND practical difference between the "Trail Active" and "Trail" settings.

Thanks

Trail active and trail settings essentially will change how aggressively the front tires engage in 4wd. With trail, the car will slide a little more in the back. If you like a looser feel (oversteer) go for trail, if you like a more grippy feel, go for trail active.

I primarily ride in trail, because it better fits my driving style. On some occasions, such as riding on a steep hill climb on a slippery slope, trail active will make the difference between making it or getting stuck half way. I typically use trail active on hills in the winter for this reason.

Here's a post that talks about it a little more:

Start pushing the car on a relatively smooth windy dirt road in each mode just to get a feel for them. You will notice the difference easily.
