2020 gearbox vs 2021 XRC turbo rr gearbox

Does anyone know if I can use a 2020 gearbox in my 2021? I broke the cases on my 2021 gearbox at the mint and cannot find a 2021 gearbox. The only difference in part numbers is a position sensor otherwise they are identical. Any help would be great. Thank you

Welcome!!

Should be the same! Just replace the sensor.
Welcome from Tucson AZ. Give it a shot, if they’re identical as you say.

The only thing is the way the sensor is mounted on the 2021. They have a small bolt going through part of the sensor. I just wasn’t sure if the computer would throw a code on it.
Thank you for the welcoming.
I cant tell if the parts number for the case is different because It shows "XXX GEAR HOUSING ASSY" for both years. maybe just the sensor is different. Might need to make some calls.

looks like they dont sell the housing separately

Yeah it doesn’t appear they sell just the housing which would have been nice. Mine is a 509 gearbox and the 2020 is a 506. The internal parts all seem to match part numbers. The mounting of a position sensor changed but I can’t imagine that the way the sensor measures position changed in one year. I called a couple of shops and got well the numbers are different so it probably won’t work. Oh and just for kicks you can’t get a new 2021 gearbox for the foreseeable future from Can am. Crazy.

How did it break and where? if you dont mind me asking?

Well is was running a very aggressive pace at the Mint 400 and first crushed and bent the rear lower frame rails. Which then broke away some of the rear skid plate and then broke the bottom of the gearbox cases. The crazy thing is I didn’t feel like I hit anything that hard. I have a shop that makes the “rear clip”. It should be done soon.
Ya that is a "weak" spot in the frame with that crimp there... Hope you get it figured out?

How were you doing in the race till that point?

As close as we could tell 10mins in front in the Rally class. Our second desert race and from the East coast. We were happy and sad at the same time. 30 miles from the finish. Hoping to get fixed for the California 300.
Yup. Next time. Lol.

For reference as to damage.
OH! man you’re problem isn’t what oils to use it’s keeping it in the case

better sleeve those lower tubes or outright replace them with thicker seamless at a minimum

I know right? There is company in Cali that makes the whole lower rear clip in Chromoly tubing. I have it on order. Just waiting for it to get here. The bigger problem is finding a 2021 gearbox.
