Never had a problem crossing the highway and see people do it all the time. You can cross right there at the Glass Creek entrance. There are also at least one or more tunnels you can pass under the highway.

    90 degree crossings are ok.

you can cross at glass creek, huh? That’s great to know and the type of “real world” info I was hoping for. Thanks!!!!

I’ve gone through the tunnel which is just a little south of where mammoth scenic loop ends at 395 with a snowmobile. Every time I do I wonder if it is wide enough for a sxs. According to the trail map, it isn’t. 50” or less in width. Haven’t seen any of the other tunnels. The ranger at the mammoth welcome center said “maybe” when I asked him if a sxs could get through that tunnel.

sandman u know the tunnel I speak of? Did u go through it?

Thanks all for the replies, looks like there is more to ride on than what is on the USDA maps. Looks like a Labor Day trip can possibly happen now.

There are 2 legal crosses. One at the entrance to glass creek where they keep the utility trucks and another through a tunnel heading south towards mammoth (city)

Seeing you’re from Ventura, if you’ve been to Gorman, it’s that riding on scenic steroids

Legal shooting ranges, fishing, riding in the pines, hell I bought a kayak last year to strap to a sxs and fish June lake all while staging from glass creek.

Only time I trailer to ride is to sherwin creek to ride to laurel lakes

Yes you can drive a SxS through the tunnel.

If coming from Glass Creek can you hop over 203 to get to laurel lakes instead of trailering?

I have a trail map provided by the mammoth ranger station in my trailer. I’ll dig it up. I believe you can but it’s a good lengthy ride as in pack fuel and a spare as the rocks near laurel lakes can do a number to a side wall

If you know where the shell gas station is at the turn going into junks lake, there are 2 legal shooting area to the rear left corner behind the fire station entering from the shell / fire station.

One sight is for target shooting and the other is for clays

There is another shooting location going away from the ranger station in mammoth on the opposite side of the highway. It’s generally more populated here as a car can easily makes its way

    Apologies for the simple directions

I’ll post the trail map when I dig it up

Also to anyone that will be making the trip, last year was the first year in some time that the shell gas station was providing water and a dump station

Call in advance to verify, (I do to be on the safe side)

Anyone who’s made the hike up toms place grade knows it’s no joke. It’s double the cajon pass for anyone traveling north. So trailering without the extra water and black waster is always a bonus

Now that’s the ticket. Kayak on sxs.

Yep I’ve been to Gorman. Hopefully doesn’t have all the crazies like Gorman though. Haha.

Sounds like it’s glass creek for the win.
