To back on the trailer or not with my max on a 14 ft trailer

Ive got a 14 ft trailer and a 19 max xrs. Is it really necessary to back these on the trailer compared to a 2 seater? I already have to drive up to the very front just to fit. I figure since the engine is really the only thing behind the axle, i should be pretty darn close to the 60/40 ratio

Depends on where the trailer axle is and how much tongue weight you end up with. Load it up both ways and weigh it.

Best thing to is load in forward on the trailer and go tow it to see how it does. If should tow fine.

If its single axle almost certainly will require reverse.

Its dual axle try it forward and see if it swings back and forth at highway speed. Tim

I have a 14' single axles trailer. I've towed both ways with no issues, now I back it on do to having a windshield. Good ol Arizona road rock chipped my new windshield right after I put it on, so no towing forward for me.

I believe the tongue weight should be 10-15 percent of the weight of the trailer. If the whole lashup weighs 4000 lbs you should have 400-600 lb tongue weight. Significantly less than that and the trailer will want to fishtail. Significantly more than that and the trailer will try to push the ass end of the tow vehicle around turns.

Does your trailer have a ramp, and does it close when loaded with the Max?

It has to be darn close when the Max is like 13'8" or so. Tim

Single or dual axle trailer ?
What type of tow vehicle ? (Saw somebody this weekend pulling a Rzr with a Dodge Neon type/size car)
Tongue weight would be my 1st concern (assuming your not pulling with a VW Bug).

I think you said it's a Max, on a 14' trailer ? Must barely fit. Dual axles w/ electric trail brakes mandatory (IMHO).

Anybody / most vehicles can "pull" a trailer. It's getting them stopped, safely. Dual axles will provide a much better stable ride. Over loading the tongue weight can be catastrophic.

    Hope that help.

Yeah, I was about to say that the trailer is undersized for that car.
