Well, all you need to do is: Make a mold of your spare tire wheel, and have someone fabricate a tank that fits in to it...voila, there you are

Having it like that is asking for a catastrophe in a rollover. I would not even consider that. In a roof rack is not the greatest but at least it provides some protection, on top of everything is a sure problem in a rollover. Tim

Sometimes you don't have many options down in Baja some places if you dont have a chase crew you better carry what you need , its a loooong walk back
those guys got 9 gallons up there so they couldn't have had any support when we did it I carried a 2.5 on my popo but we had a chase truck we’d meet to get fueled, only time I used my spare was when the knuckle heads ran the chase truck out of fuel and we had to go get gas for him , I watched all the sections they ran and they weren't gettin crazy just cruzing but ya, if they would roll it it could get ugly fast , if im solo Ill strap a can in the passenger seat all harnessed up did that new years for the bikes that went on a long ride with us out to superstition , they can make about 3/4 of the trip before running out

I would never put extra fuel on top. Weight is one thing but what happens if there is a leak. Yes those are supposed to be good tanks but everything has a chance of breaking. Rock, branch, or anything could fly up and put a hole in it, then you have fuel leaking down on a hot engine. Atleast under the seat it would drain out on the ground. just my thoughts though.

IMO best place is a Rotopax under the seat - can't get better protection - AND away from the engine. Many guys doing this and one post indicated a frame he built along with straps to hold in place. As for the fuel expanding to the point that you can't retrieve from under the seat, try this - fill Rotopax completely full and tilt if required so no air in the container - set in the sun so fuel expands - open spout and drain expanded fuel - re-tighten spout. Thus the fuel will contract when cooler and only expand to the same volume when sitting in the sun.
    Comments?
    Cheers

Not an ideal set up, but sometimes you got to make due. In a rollover those cans will likely go flying. I plan on throwing one on my roof rack for the trips were finding a gas station might be an issue.
